Phil The last year are so we had to get it scrubbed twice a month , but at the cost of hall-outs it is still a big savings . We also have never had to get bottom paint removed Bob

Perhaps it is my monitor Bob which is not doing your photos justice(the last picture in particular) but it looks like there is something scraped in several places along you waterline(the scum line as it were) enough to remove the blue antifouling paint.

Interesting to read your boat has a barrier coated bottom. I was always under the impression traditionally planked hulls could not be barrier coated due to the movement of the planks vs the stiffness of the barrier coat.

I confess to seeing just a touch of blue in that green paint but when you compare its color to the blue jacket on one of the workmen in the two photos you can see why I would call that bottom paint green.

A quick question for ramillet--The propellor blades appear to be an odd shape, closer to the shape I see on a lot of fans. Is that a special design or is it just a trick of the light that makes the blades look so different?

Peter the barrier coat is white in the water line area . Olinka has not had her top sides wooded sense 1974 , and she only shows plank marks near the stem and stern when the paint is getting old . Tight seams , no calking . Bob

Thanks for the clarification Bob. I understand now that what I was seeing is simply where some of the antifouling perhaps came off and exposed the white barrier coat. Thanks to for saving me an eye exam for colour blindness(are you reading this MAM? )


The work being undertaken is mighty impressive stuff, to say the least! A massive job, really, considering the extremely tight quarters the crew have to work within. It also underlines the considerable resources required to properly maintain a yacht of this size and pedigree to ensure she carries on giving pleasure for decades to come. I've little doubt if OLINKA could talk, she would sing your praises daily!!

Yes, I saw that about the label saying blue. But shortly thereafter, scanning down a post or two, I saw several pictures showing blue support pads shoved up to the green bottom.

Hell, anyone can be color blind, even a paint manufacturer.

Norm the ribs are tempted . Then Wayne takes them to his shop and laminates the ribs flat on his layout bench . If he does a set , he glues up a double wide rib , then splits it after the glue sets . Then he ruff bevels the hull shape . The finish fit is done at the boat . The ribs are oak , glued with epoxy .


These are the ribs we did earlier in the keel area . On these project Wayne made the ribs in 2 pieces , so when the 2 pieces are assembled they fit tight between the planking and the shear clamp .

Gerard I built an oak floor , that replaces the steel floor and also supports the bridge floor and ties to the beam that supports the steering pedestal . That floor well be glued in after the horn timber . Below is the templet for that floor . Bob

The big advantage is seeing whats going on . Another is you can do it once and it last a long time

Bob / I think you need to bring Olinka up to Saturna Island, where you were on summer vacation in '63. I'd make sure to be around for that. Lyall Harbour would make a great base for further exploration and the island is in the 'rain shadow' of the Olympic Mtns. LOL.

The project is getting bigger . Yesterday I get a call from my son saying ," can we cut some clearance for the horn timber " ?



Well , I guess we get a new cockpit sooner than later , and a few more rib ends .



Here Ruben is working back by the mast step , It's a straight shot from the helm to the galley sol now .




With the top section of the horn out the rest looks good .
