Default C F Woodcraft - anybody know anything?

Does anyone know anything about C F Woodcraft?

Builder's plate reads "C F Woodcraft Co., Lafayette Street, NY"

Looks like Mystic might have something in their collection. http://library.mysticseaport.org/man...ll/coll223.cfm Scan down and look under their list "index to corporate names".

Unfortunately, the posting is gone. The only other info I could find was on Google Books.... old articles mentioning them from the 1930's thru early 1950's. No detailed information, though.

C.F. Woodcraft operated from a loft on Lafayette Street in lower Manhattan. My father purchased their 12' sailing pram at the New York Boat Show which was held in the Kingsbridge Armory. Morris Rosenfeld's book, "The Story of American Yachting", has a picture of that boat show on pages 262 and 263. In the photograph, you can see a sign board with the name "Woodcraft" on it in between displays by Aluma Craft and Jafco. When the boat was ready, we drove to their loft on a Saturday morning and the lowered the boat from a 2nd floor opening down to the sidewalk and then placed it on our trailer. I still have the boat which I learned to row and sail in but most of the time was spent with a 5 1/2 Johnson Seahorse clamped on the stern. I think the company went out of business around 1958. About two years ago, one of their catalogs was up for auction on ebay but I was not the winning bidder. Congratulations -- you have a very well built boat which is indeed worthy of restoration.

Then, gave her a quart of interlux 404/414.then the owner painted a few coats of off white alkyd .

The plan is to fire up the sailing rig when we meet next winter in Carriacou. The owner is well versed in small rowing dingys , and was committed to saving this well behaved boat , based on her good performance.

I am in the process (beginning year 3 now) of restoring a 1932 C F Woodcraft 16' runabout with a 4 cylinder Gray Marine inboard. Found her in Vermont where she had been barn stored since 1950's.

I recently purchased the boat that I believe started this thread. It's a 15 1/2' CF Woodcraft. If anyone has any further information I want to learn the history behind this boat and the company. Here's the listing on Craig's list.

Looking forward to my first restore.
