yes tim,
i think i will do 3 of them out of the same strut as the stringers, that should skookum enough dont you think tim?
near disaster bending outer stem
successful 1" x 2" outer stem bend
wear strips spliced
outer stem tapered and fit to hull
outer stem spliced to keel
first 3 rub strips bolted on
Those look like some serious rub strips Royce. Are still going to add a plastic strip on top of each one?

Jim,
They are 1" thick x 2" wide, and will get 3/4" thick hdpe strip screwed to them. At 1 3/4" thick they should keep most of the cobble away from the hull. I have some concern about the boat being difficult to turn under oar power. If that is the case I can shave the plastic or oak or both. What do you think?
I'm guessing that it'll be no joy turning under oars if it's anything like my SOF wherry or Caledonia Yawl, but if you're comfortable backing with one oar while pulling with the other it'll be fine. I bet it'll track really well though.

oarlock outriggers shaped and fitted
now to find some bronze for these
Brilliant! They look great
oarlock sockets
Those look good. Do the oar locks have a pin or something in them so you don't lose one by accident?

well i started building a trailer out of junk a month or two ago but did not like the running gear so i aborted it. i started this one this morning. the frame is made from three industrial water heater shipping skids and one more turned crossed ways to hang the axle

this trailer will see a lot of really lousy gravel road so i was happy to find this external spring torsion axle. it came off a military heater for warming up airplanes, with a gvw of 800 lbs. it had a real narrow track so i chopped and sleeved it and will add some shock mounts as well. me and my buddy jumped up and down on it and i think it will be near perfect for this boat. best of all was the price, nothing.
I was thinking the unistrut was going to be for seat attachment. Like adjustable seats? Looks like I was wrong - what purpose do you have in mind for the strut?

in the end the strut will mount seats, battery box, fuel tank, cooler and a dry box. the seats in there now are temporary. the river ice is at 39 inches today and is thinning. i will not have the time to do everything that needs done so when i get the trailer done i will haul her to town for paint. i should see the engine next week and hopefully be ready to hang it. sometimes you just have to let the rough end drag.
thanks

Cool! But I think you might be asking for trouble with your tiller on backwards like that. Better send it back and ask for a new one.![]()
