Hi,
I'm about to start making up some oak laminates for stems and frames in a stretched version of Oughtred's Elfyn. Does anyone know a source for resorcinol glues in the SW UK?
Thanks
Tom

Hi,
I bought Resorcinol from Alanson's of Bristol, UK. Delivered it. They do winter, normal or summer grade depending on the ambient temperature your working in. They do loads of other adhesives too. More you buy the much cheaper it gets. It doesn't smell hardly, like melted chocolate in colour and can be planed off easier than epoxy when set. The most durable adhesive it can cope with acid in the oak. I weigh out the two parts much quicker. You can brush it, but I found smearing it on with a spatula/ scraper was quicker. Like epoxy doesn't stick to plastic, so I wrapped a laminated stem in a tough plastic (body bag) and clamped it to keep it off my clamps.

... and if they don't have it; Marine & Industrial :- https://marineindustrial.co.uk/index...-adhesive.html (though admittedly not the S.W., they do post)

Or wessex Resins, http://www.wessex-resins.com/Wessex_...resorcinol.htm
cheers guys, i'll email them and get a few price lists.
Is cascamite any good? Resorcinol is working out at £100 for 3kg, a bit steep so any alternative would be worth looking at. cheers
If you want only a small amount of Resorcinol, you can buy small cans of it. Its sold as Polyproof in the UK.
Its £18 per tin 670g.

If your using Resorcinol and have the skill or machinery to achieve tight wood to wood bonds, you don't need much of it, compared to when using say epoxy and making use of its gap filling or filleting properties, so a bit of Resorcinol can go along way, if the application is suitable.
