I didn't know 'till recently that it was the same Colin Archer who had pioneering brothers here in Qld - hence Mt Archer, and a whole variety of Norse mythology place names in the region. Later in life he returned to Norway and pursued the boat design / building. He had a ?cutter built at Maryborough and sailed it north to meet his brothers with provisions at the now city of Rockhampton. The boat was called Elida and and later took wool back south - the boat was sold, and eventually wrecked on on of the islands. Travelling with Mr Archer was a Mr Elliott (? Elliott River / Elliott Heads), who I think went on to survive a spearing from the natives (through the cheek!).

As another co-incidence, we now we have an Australian (Mary) as crown princess of Denmark - maybe we should have asked for some boats as a dowry....

There is a lot to like about Gerda , but I'm not sure about the engine setup.
A Perkins belt driving the bottom end of a semi-diesel engine , well it works , but it just doesn't appeal to me.
I'd like to see her restored to semi-diesel power , that would be a nice , and unique boat then.
    Regards Rob J
