Peter, I've made great use of my little solar pack and it's power bank, exactly for that use and similar. For example, using my iphone for a gps/navionics function out on the boat, but constantly recharging with the little solar pack, and at the same time, keeping the charge up to the power bank, for recharging phones, tablets at night. There are a whole host of different portable solar packs. Mine was from

At the moment my preference is for a combination of Teal and Katherine Anne. Teal enlarged to K A's dimensions ( the real Teal being 19 foot 6'' LOA ) and K A's rig reduced slightly in the foresail department.

When a picture says a thousand words - there’s a lot to look at there that makes you want to see more - the boat in the slings for starters, then the old Allen Crane truck that looks like it has been permanently fixed in place as a dock crane and sitting on its axles with no wheels (perhaps no axles with the chassis bolted down to the dock?); the black and white double ender back left; whatever is under the two white topped wooden masts immediately behind the blue hull behind the Allen; the little blue and white boat to the right; all the detritus of the boat yard strewn haphazardly around the site (a WHSO’s dream confrontation (I’m not a fan of WHSO's)); and the kettle on the jinker draw-bar ready at hand for a cuppa the moment the boat is out of its slings.....

Pete I think you posted to the wrong thread. No harm done though. Greg is that white spacer of which you speak, just a bit of fancy rope work?

Good advice but I'm enjoying dreaming. A stack of good 7x2 oregon in 3 to 4.9m lengths turned up in my local demo yard, fine growth rings and good for strip planking. I bought it and that initiated the dreaming.

I like building so I'll build something as soon as JIM is in the water, either a keel boat or a little canoe yawl, a bigger JIM.

Those bags look terrific Gary! Thanks!

That boat looks very nice although I think the cabin is too long. Practical though! And it looks very nice inside!

I might have a look myself I'm chasing timber to redo the belting strips on the gunwales.

Tom you interested in that prop shaft I've got? I'd be after a $100 for it which is around one third it cost me.

I know this boat and the owner, managed to drive it around the river on the Port Adelaide club first open day at the new location. I'm reasonably sure it's planked in a softwood, I thing maybe a Starling Burgess design, this is a good boat that could be amazing. The owner is a talented wood worker but had no boat experience so some could have been done more appropriately, I really wanted to sail this boat but gave up after a while, some simple things needed fixing but I don't his heart was in it anymore. When you step on it, it seemed tender but may be ok when under sail, it has a wider beam than Ghost so maybe form stability is the thing.

Okay I'm thinking of going top deck and buying either teak or beech for the gunwale beltings. I had thought of using oregon and F/ging over it but if the fg gets dinged and it will happen then I get rot. If I use teak or beech (assuming I can afford it) then it won't matter as much.
So who do I go to between Tweed Heads and Brisbane to get a good deal?

I would probably have to go to Kyogle for it. Uki mill doesn't have any. I'll look up the Kyogle mill. I'm thinking teak as I don't have to do anything to it. Though I would probably oil it.

Kyogle mill may have some .
BTW, green sg bends much, much more easily. You could bend it on green, screw it in place with roofing screws , leave it to dry there, fix it when you're happy.

    Just a suggestion.

I only have a week on the hard Peter, this has all got to happen rather fast given the amount of work needed. I won't know how much repair is needed till the beltings are removed and the paint stripped back.

I have no idea how to convert that to 30 linear metres of 25mm x 25mm.

    $27 in gum.
