speaking of cyclones - from the current forecast map....media here starting to talk it up a bit

I meant there are a lot of boats there to hide.

It'll be interesting to see what it does . Normally , I wouldn't be too worried about one in that location ( from the point of view of tracking along the coast and then the Tasman. Not good for people right there in Darwin of course)
Those usually seem to hop inland and waste away. Is that right Greg?
But it is early, thats not a good sign season wise..

Not really JB, - there is no normal when it comes to cyclones up here:

The forecast at this stage is for this low to track SW down the coast but the media are keen to remind us that the same was expected for Tracey when she hit Darwin at Christmas 1974

Talking a couple of MR volunteers this morning and they pegged yesterday's gust at more like 40 knots. I believe parts of Brisbane got a pasting.
My take is that if you poke someone with a sharp stick they'll get annoyed, if you smile and shake their hand they will be your friends.

I have three books that may be up for grabs, I haven't really looked at them yet.
The Yachtsman's Navigation Manual by Jeff Toghill
The Complete Book of Yacht Care by Verney
World cruising Routes by Jimmy Cornell.
If anyone is interested it will be the cost of postage.

It's supposed to get to 32 today. It's 37ish at 4:30 in the arvo. I'm trying to do a fiddly job in the shed but it's not going well. Blood and sweat. No tears yet.

Lots of blood here, I've been cutting, pulling and poisoning woody weeds on the place and the leeches are out and about after a bit of rain. I shellback tick bite, 2 hopper ants, I bull ant and 3 leeches . The joys of country living.

Yuk. I popped down to Balia this morning for a quiet recovery nap, following Felicitys family Christmas get together last night. 50 for dinner. We did 6 chooks and 3 lamb roasts in a wood fired pizza oven. Delish. Then got summoned across the road by the neighbors to help get a big water tank off a truck, then help drink beer.

We had a shark spotter plane doing loud-siren circle work off the end of our street earlier. The report says a 4 to 5 metre white pointer 400 metres off the beach, and the map shows it was spotted right off the end of the street. Good job I was busy in the shed. That's a big fish.

Not that I have gone out of my way to compare them but I think Bullants are worse.

Passing Willis Island an Australian meteorological weather outpost and the only permermently inhabited island in the Coral Sea Islands. Territory located 280 mi East of Cairns .
Also interesting to note Cyclone Yasi passed directly over the 9 m high island the instruments failed at around 185 km and besides damaging inturstructure the island was also reshaped.

I'd like to live on a tropical island - but probably not that one!

Your first northerly after Christmas looks like it might be Boxing Day Tom.

Tempo has relocated to Brisbane (Everton Park).
The removalist finally delivered our stuff from Melbourne a few days ago. We're becoming less unsettled and might be up for a sail in the next few weeks.
    Any forumites in Brisbane?
    Thanks, Mack

Working the steep bank of our 'nature strip' with the brush cutter today. Hot work and two trailer loads.
The council person responsible for threatening people with legal action if you don't cut your grass is getting very short shrift lately. People just march them back out the gate and point at the roadside mess. If ever there is a fire that's how it will travel.
The council person has been told a counter suit claiming negligence would result.
