I have this print of J. W. M. Turners' 'Wreckers at Northumberland' bought in Greenwich. I like his later works as his eyes failed, almost impressionist. Lloyd Reece's work went the same way for the same reasons.

I especially like that Jeff. Kate and I seem to have quite different tastes in a lot of things but one thing we do share is that we both tend to mostly prefer impressionist art, not that we've been able to afford anything that we've both liked. The Marigold is an exception, I like it because of the colour and it is my favourite yacht and Kate actually likes the print as well.......hence the win on the Chrissy present.

This just gets better and better. Took the dog for a walk around the property this morning and noticed a sign saying the road past our place will be closed on Sunday. Seems the Adelaide Targa Rally comes right past our place. We live on a pretty speccy sweeping corner on one of what I think is the best roads for sporting driving in Adelaide. Should be a fun day!

Weeeell ..... the council got some contractor to cut up the spotted gum trees that fell down near our place last week. Unfortunately they cut them a bit short - about 2 m. But I asked the council to leave a few logs at our place if they could - and they did. These are fat logs! Now I'm buggered if I know how I'm going to cut them up!

Give them a call, you maybe surprised, of course it depends on how much milled timber you can get out of the logs.

As Gary says, if the logs are good it turns out around 33% of buying timber from the mill.

Too easy. I've been too busy with other things to look at the schedule but I think on one of the days there is a "Parade of Sail" where a gazzilion beautiful boats get out on the water. Thats the big event we are crewing up for. I guess the rest of the show Balia will be tied up at Kings pier and of course anyone is welcome to drop by any time.

    Now, on another subject:

How strange are these kiwis then eh? The story seemed totally inexplicable to me until I read that the pig had damaged his power saw!
Bloody hell - that could make a bloke do all sorts of odd things.
The police writing up the report must have had a good laugh.

    From abc.net.au/news

Man assaults wife with ostrich egg
A New Zealand man who assaulted his wife with an ostrich egg after her pet pig ran amok has been jailed for six months, according to local press reports.
Phillip Russell lost his temper when he discovered the pig had damaged his power saw.
He verbally abused his wife, spat at her, then grabbed an ostrich egg from the kitchen table and hurled it at her.
Reports said Russell, 46, had repeatedly asked his wife to keep the pet pig under control as it had damaged their home, a neighbour's house and council property, but she insisted it should be given free rein.
The ostrich egg, the largest type of egg produced by any living bird species, caused bruising to the chest of Russell's wife, the report said.
It said Russell pleaded guilty to charges including assault using an ostrich egg as a weapon over the July 5 incident and was sentenced to six months jail in Hastings District Court on Wednesday.
At an earlier court hearing, Russell's defence lawyer said his client, who has a record of domestic violence, had expected his wife to catch the egg.
The report did not explain why Russell had an ostrich egg, a species that is not native to New Zealand.

Thank goodness for this and about bloody time:

CENTURY old maritime safety laws will be replaced with more modern guidelines and a new national agency in charge of Australian shipping regulations after new laws passed federal parliament.

The coalition backed a package of legislation to regulate ship and seafarer safety, shipboard aspects of environmental protection and employment rights. It will replace the Navigation Act of 1912 and make the Australian Maritime Safety Authority the sole regulator of shipping in Australian waters, replacing eight federal, state and territory regulators. The Navigation Bill 2012, the Marine Safety (Domestic Commercial Vessel) National Law Bill 2012 and two related bills passed the Senate on Thursday on the voices. The bills now await Royal Assent

We had snow here in the Adelaide hills today. Not unknown but certainly unusual. Lots of hail on the road. Going to be a busy night in the emergency department, we just don't do this sort of weather. Bit of a bloody contrast to Ramu.

(Well that was the story any how), but with snow/slush on the road we nearly drove off the bridge on the way back to Crafers.

It's been on the table for quite a while (as in ten years or more) and most states, I think, have been in favour of it....I think (but will stand corrected) that it's been mostly NSW that has stalled it up until now. I don't know if this means they will actually get rid of the state Maritime Safety Authorities and staff or whether they will simply remain as they are to administer the AMSA regulations (probably most likely I suspect). As far as I can see it may simply mean that they may now have a national vessel certification and national commercial tickets, rather than State ones.
For example, where Qld may have recognised a NSW ticket and allowed you to operate there on that ticket, it wasn't necessarily reciprocal because some states didn't believe that the Qld standards were up to scratch with their own.

Careful Phil, if you cool something too quickly that's been hot for quite a while it can crack.

Definitely the case with interstate visiting boats. Can't say too much, but they certainly didn't get it easy when they visited

A lovely night last night, shrieking Westerlies, probably 60 to 70 km, tottering around this morning repairing the damage. Fortunately we get so many winds up here that the trees are well trained and well rooted, all stayed in place.

The Uraidla pub is about 2 minutes drive from my house! Its actually finally gone the way of many small pubs without poker machines-it closed its doors about a week ago. Bloody roads were slippery last night-compacted hail. My son went for a drive to take some photos and couldn't get traction at all to go up the hill-the wheels spun and the car just moved backwards.

Ian did you see in my post above, it turns out the Adelaide Targa Rally goes right past our front door on Sunday morning. Couldn't have got the timing much better than that.
