The farmers up the creek all have big patches they just seem to ignore . I drove down the road yesterday and killed all the ones on the roadside then on the creek bank by the bridge. I think it's going to be a major weed and a major pain!

I've just booked the ferry to Tasmania to take Sheila for a holiday next year. I've semi-deliberately avoided the WBF to make sure Sheila gets a holiday and it doesn't become just another boat outing for her to endure, also the co-driver with one of my shifts at the council already has a holidy booked at that time, so the temptation is avoided. We're departing 22nd Jan and leaving 3rd Feb. We'll be traveling all over the countryside like the Leyland Brothers, including 3 easy days around the Hobart area, travelling in the truck.
When I first joined WBF they made me write a book to prove I was a real yachty. I was so gullible.

Check out the Nant Distillery if you find yourselves headed north (and are prone to single-malts). Yummmm

Better still - (see what I did there?)...... the Lark Distillery (and not just for the name ), Nant - seems somewhat overpriced for my taste in malts.

GOOD Point! I'd forgotten about Larks. That whole "Davey Street" area was worth some time. Nant was high, but they were more to my taste in single malts. Especially the cask strength Port barrel stuff. But then, I was on vacation and was willing to splurge.

I don't know why, but any of those Port barrel, sherry barrel type whisky's just never taste right to me, they seem like a good way to ruin what might otherwise be quite a nice drop and I can't get any sort of affinity for them.

I'm just trying to decide when to go down, some time around then. Dad and mum usually go for a post Christmas sail, but with her leg gone, she probably wont be sailing any time soon.-shes doing Ok but its still not fully healed. So kind of planning a bit of a last sail with dad on his boat. He has someone lined up locally who will probably buy the boat after that. They are off to NZ a bit either side of the WBF, from the 5th to the 19th so I too will miss that. Might have a look at the ferry fares and see when the best deal is, any time through jan and feb, except from the 5th to the 19th.

Based on a quick look, I'm pencilling in 19 Jan to 26 Jan.

Only two more days to go on this painting job and it looks like I should have some decent spending money for Tassy. Bringing back a nice bottle of single malt would be nice. Larks is over priced.

No I'm not!!! I'm worth every penny!

But if you are looking at Tassy single malts, they're all rather excessively priced compared to better and cheaper Scottish, Irish or Japanese malts - but they're still rather special.

For what it's worth, of those that I've tried I'd rate them in order:
Lark (the basic single malt - not distillers selection or cask strength)
    Hellyers slightly peated
    Mackey triple distilled
    Nant old Mill reserve
    .
    .
    .
Sullivans Cove - I don't know why, but any of the Sullivans Cove malts seem to give me heartburn

Ahhh....I've a dreadful sweet tooth. I'll pick Jameison's or Midleton over Bushmill's and I lean toward Speysides over Islays. But doing the research is what makes it a horserace, eh?

Re the boat I bought in Tassy. I'll contact the previous owner about having it moved soon. Is your relo's shed still in the picture Phil?

Thank you, I'll talk to where it is, she's offered to transport it a reasonable distance, she's in Sandfly. (Not an address I'd fancy myself actually)

Thanks Phil, the vendor will deliver I think. Should we put them in touch with each other? I'll ask tonight if it's ok with her.

This weekend should make up for a miserable couple of weeks I've had.

Sailing Saturday: initial sea trials of a Junk Rigged TS16. From the times I've checked out progress of the conversion and tidy up, it looks very interesting.

Sailing Sunday: Balia with Phil plus the Tas crew and families etc, hoping to catch One And All and Tenacious sailing together.

My spirits could do with a lift and my body would do well to spend more time on its feet, in some sunlight.

Boat unrelated. More weed control, burrowing through undergrowth pulling weeds and cutting and poisoning others.

Washing machine leaks, virtually built in. Extracted, deconstructed, found nothing, put back. I'll keep you posted.
