My 49th year skiing and the season has been good in todays terms. These temperatures with reasonable moisture should have given the resorts 12ft of snow, but the best was about 2 meters as far as I can tell. But being so cold what was there was good.

For me it's only the bars that are a worry so timing is everything.

I was up the coast yesterday and checked out the little bar on Curumbin Creek for a JIM voyage, at full tide yesterday and with a gentle onshore breeze it was fine, easy even ..... 2 hours later .... not so good, a bit less water, a very tricky narrow channel and a bit more wind .

That's a tricky one Peter. The channel runs parallel to the northern shore.

These days you can walk across the entrance at a low tide. Not so many years ago an RL 28 used to stop in regularly, as well my old Pacific Seacraft 25 with a 3' draft crossed it once.

Peter are you planning to have your launching ceremony at Currumbin?

Probably at Fingal Tom but it's a little way off I'm afraid . I've entered the world of fussy little ( time consuming ) details !

I hadn't Peter, thanks for the link - it looks particularly interesting but will save it for this evening so that I can watch it without interruption.

Back from a day on the slopes. One of those perfect ones. Snowed yesterday, bright sunshine and blue skies today and few people. A slight breeze but I skied in a very light wind cheater and shorts, all day. Tomorrow it will go to mush, in 3 days probably mostly gone. Being a devotee of tree skiing we bombe a few lightly wooded steep gullies, but of course you then have to climb out. You only crack one like this every 8 years or so.

Yes, with our snowfields at low levels and our climate you gotta be in the right place at the right time, especially in spring. Sometimes you just get a few hours. Last monday they had powder, but there was a blizzard blowing as well. I Aus. that's about normal!
Few cramps last night but not bad this morning. But then I haven't done anything more energetic than make coffee yet!

Interesting watching the boats come home this afternoon. A NNE at around 15+ knots is blowing, not quite straight down the gulf but pretty close. A smallish looking plastic looking sloop is motoring slowly up into the wind heading for the harbour entrance. A little bit behind her is a larger junk rigged schooner (??), full fans up on both masts, pushing along at around the same speed, heading for the same destination judging by the course and position. Too far out for me to see if the JR boat was motor sailing. It looked nice from a distance with the sails fully inflated, bobbing along into the chop.

An exciting day on the briny today...anyone know where I can get a 5 metre stick of clear Oregon, say 75mm x 50mm?
