How's the Maldives Rick? Holiday I assume? The diving would be pretty good.

I'm looking at the weather from the sydney region north. Yikes! We were talking here about last year when the rain stopped around november 25th till mid march. Looks like it's already stopped up there. 26 here today and a strong northerly.

Maldives are nice but it's a surfing trip, not a diving trip. I'd be enjoying it more if I hadn't spent the last 30 years in offices instead of surfing, and if the swell would drop a bit so my arms and ribs can have a rest! The diving would be great here - very clear water and loads of life in it. In fact a little reef shark hit a fish right in front of me in the surf a couple of days ago, sending a spray of fish innards into the air! I've never seen anything like that before! And there are giant trevally here that ride inside the waves like dolphins - very beautiful! I'll send a couple of boat pictures later - the boats are really interesting. Rick

Mirror problem! I've just bought a Mirror from Mt Eliza which is somewhere in the dim, dark back blocks of Victoria. I've paid for it but the owners want it out before next weekend as they're selling their house. I can't get to Vic for another few weeks. David (Asrainox) has agreed to pick it up next weekend but the owners want it out before then. So .... is there anyone nearby who would be able to pick it up within the next week and mind it for a couple of weeks? Rick

Is it on a trailer? I could ask on Facebook. I have a few Vic friends who might help.

I wonder if it might be worth contacting the Daveys Bay yacht club (Mt Eliza) and seeing if someone there might take it to the club for a slab of beer??? Or whether the owners might do so? From memory they've got quite a bit of space for dinghy storage. 'Can only but ask: http://www.daveysbay.org.au/contact-us.html

I think any time before the weekend of 20 Oct should be okay. I've PMed the relevant details to David and Jeff so if either of you are able and willing to do it, I'll be very grateful! Your assistance with this is already greatly appreciated! Rick

Getting away from borrowing Rick's Mirror for a moment, here's a heart breaker.

I'm clear all next week monday till friday Rick. I phoned and got his voice mail this morning and haven't heard back as yet.
I imagine I'll need another bod to get it on to the trailer.
I don't know why you want Bruce to vet it though………………….

No need to be too gentle with Jeff, just drag it on! I'm not sure what David's plans are. He might be heading to Mt Eliza this weekend after all so let's just see what he's up to. Thanks again for this! Meanwhile, here in the Maldives where we're supposed to have nice 4' waves (i.e., suitable to my current lack of surfing ability), instead we had 8 - 10' faces this morning and my mate just snapped his board in half. He had to go onto the reef to retrieve the front half of it as he had a Gopro camera fastened to it - which wasn't turned on (silly bugger, would have been good footage!). Rick

I await developments Rick, I worked with two brothers from the Maldives who told stories of the other side of life there. They said they felt embarrassed because of their wealth in comparison with their island relatives which was extreme.

    Hey mate,

If you can do it Monday, I might ask if you wouldn't mind? I've got a whole bunch of interstate family stuff this weekend that I'd feel quite dodgy skipping out on at this sorta notice. I was gung-ho for next weekend, but if they can't wait, so be it.

Let me know if it's a success, and if not, I'll keep next weekend open!

Rick where abouts in the Maldives are you? I have a mate working there at the moment...(at least I think he's still there...) but depending on where you are he may be a useful contact

Ok, I'll do that. If Rick doesn't turn up quickly it might just, accidentally, find itself under sail on WP bay. Accidentally of course

That's great Jeff, and you're welcome to sail it as much as you like! Thanks to you too David! Staying at a resort on Chaaya Island, better known among the surfing community as Pasta Point. The only bit of the real Maldives I've seen is the 100m strip between the air terminal and the wharf, so I know nothing about Maldives politics or culture. I'm going for a dive in the morning as I'm sick of being thumped by the waves! Maybe, with a bit of luck, the swell will drop by the afternoon! I've spent most of my surfing `career' wishing the swell would pick up but I can tell you, things are different now! Rick

I came home a bit early today to go and have a look at the Mandurah boat show, to avoid the weekend crowd. Biggest waste of $18.00 (entry fee) that I can remember being subjected to......not one single solitary sailing specific stall or product....all power boat/fishing boat and all ally or plastic. Very disappointing!
