With that in mind I’m wondering what type of vessel has entered if you happen to have seen it, it would let me know what something of the depth of the entrance.

It's a rather large but likely shallow draft motor cruiser set up as a base for wake boarders. The fleet sailed round him today as he shifted position trying no to go aground on the low tide. There really isn't room for him there, and not much options to go anywhere else in the estuary. I did not hang about to ask the rather hirstute individual on board any questions. The bar is very shallow, the club rescue boat has been called out regularly to retrieve crews from boats and PWC. If it came in there is no guarantee it can get out as there is no longer a marked channel due to there not being one. The tidal flow over the shallow bottom is as much as 7kts

For today's fleet of 21 assorted sailing dinghies it involves lifting your skirts (centreboards)
lest you strain your boat or capsize. Some of us have shorter non standard centreboards just for sailing in the estuary.
Damn good days sailing nevertheless, especially when, as the tide came in the rollers from outside came with it. Always fun sailing in a 4ft short chop. I quite enjoy it myself.

Ok, that sounds like not a wise option to contemplate bringing Warana in when Im on the way to the Prom next. Pity as it would be a nice stop over point.

Reasonable anchorage just inside Western port on the left. Bridge end. Other than that I think they are all very shallow. Ask Bruce, he sailed that way on the way home to Adelaide.
BTW, Sailing club is just where the beach narrows down under the letters 'on'.
There was a time when it was a trading port, 15ft at the sea wall. Sea wall is now inland under the sand behind the club boat storage. Our change rooms were once for the sea baths, now a car park to the right of the club.
The sand bars change week on week but the general trend is silting up, and the river moves every season. Intersting place to sail……...

The sand bank is called Little Lummy Island. The island in the distance to the left is Mud Island.

An interesting little bit on the origin of the term balustrading.

Yes, it's a good anchorage. Easily identified, charts seem pretty accurate, plenty of boats there to indicate the good spots. There's a fair bit of current in the channel but it was ok in the anchorage.

Yesterday it was 35c+ and blowing a gale from the north. This morning overcast, 22 and no wind at all. Hopefully a breeze this afternoon for sunday sailing.

    Sunday sailing.
Good steady 12-18kt SW wind. 26 boats on the water including some fro Albert Park Lake that has been half drained to keep the park green for the AGP. And they still want the clubs to have boats sailing for the cameras. Offer is 5 grand but there's only enough water for junior boats.

The original Swanson 28 that was the plug the hull moulds were taken off is for sale. A 'proper' wooden Swanson 28.

Fixing my centreboard after hitting the only rock in the estuary………….

Vessel moored near the jetty hopes to get out on a high tide this week. He has a rubber ducky he can use as a pilot.

ok, those vessels I’m thinking would draw about a meter so I’m thinking at 1.2 my boat could get in on a high tide as well. Last time I was there I saw what looked like a cray boat in the distance moored further up the inlet.

Last year every boat in this yard ended up in one big pile of flood debris. This year there are 3 times as many boats stored here.

I swear that everytime I create a bit of space in my shed, something that may be useful sometime in the future slips across from some parallel universe and clogs it up again.

What about that thing that you trip over, bump into, move from place to place around the workshop for months, sometimes years knowing that it may be useful sometime in the future.
Then that future moment arrives... and do you think you can find it...

    I have a dirty secret.....

There's a boat taking shape in my shed.

    https://duckworks.com/mia-plans/

    Its my sons HSC project.
We bought a crappy old plastic boat that has a decent 25hp motor and steering gear, plus a very servicable trailer. We'll plunder it for power.

    The rest he's building himself.

    IMG_9547.jpg

    IMG_9548.jpg

Reporting will be covert and scant - he must build this himself and I don't want to give any impression that it's a collaborative affair.

Its a nice little project. It should snap together pretty quick. He's doing it cause he wants to GO FAST!!
Good way to get dad to cough up some hard currency to get a new toy - that goes FAST!
It's all fun and games until Darth Vader comes.

Look forward to watching the progress on this one.

I managed a coat of varnish on the grab rails yesterday. And I've been informed I should have my sail by June.

It'll be fast on the plane and be a good flat water boat. My Panga has more deadrise than that and is painful in a chop in light trim.
