Heads up for a decent TV program, last week's was very good .
    TEST YOUR BRAIN: MEMORY

Monday 3rd September at 8.30 pm (60 minutes)
    Channel: SBS
(Part 2 of 3) Set on the gritty streets of New York City, a thrilling crime story will challenge viewers to test their memories with a veteran NYPD detective as our guide. More than any other function of the brain, memories define who you are as a unique individual. But when it comes to memory, things are not always as they seem - details go missing, recollections change, and it turns out that the brain actually forms memories that are 'false'. What the experts know about how our brain creates and recalls memories will astound you. (From the US) (Entertainment Series)

I have to do my nails, have lunch, drink a cup of tea, and work out which t-shirt to wear while I walk down to the shed to look at it. You guys just have it sooooooooo easy!!

While some of you girls are busy winging about your work lists, others just get on with working through them!!

As well as mowing the block, fertilising all of the trees, spreading a load of sugar cane mulch, repairing the laundry door lock, cleaning out the shed gutters, cutting up some huon pine to bring back for a small project, shifting a bit more dirt under the house to backfill retaining walls.......I managed to get the hearth constructed over the two days that I was actually at home over the weekend (we had to go to Bribie for Kate's fathers birthday/fathers day on Sunday before I flew back to WA so that took away a day from me....).

It looks a bit ordinary there by itself at the moment but the wall behind it will eventually have a cut stone facade up to mantle height and a mantle out of something.....(whatever I have under the house from my score before I left Stella). That plus a slow combustion wood burner should make it look a little less out of place.

It also looks a bit smaller than it "felt" it's about 5' 4" long by about 3'2" deep and took five of us to carry it in and set it down. I raised it so that we could sit on it and so that it was obvious enough not to trip over it as you walk around the corner from the hallway and it sits over a 1" piece of cement sheet in the same shape.

I ended up placing a 2006 $2.00 coin (the year that I started the house) and a note about the house, when it was built and why it was named "Enniscorthy", under the hearth for some rotten bugger who might decide to lift it up down the track:

A paid the guys that cut it an extra $20.00 to seal it but I think I'll seal it again myself. I have some stuff (can't remember the name) that I had bought for another job but which is the same stuff that I used to seal my mud bricks and sandstone chimney on the house I built in Alice, so I know that it is pretty good..

Same here, I sealed a slate hearth under my wood stove 20 odd years ago and it's held up very well.

Lists? Work? Pah! Just got back from the best part of 5 hours on the water. Couple sailing and the rest in the kayak. Had to shepherd a couple of unfit paddlers and a newbie. For those who know the bay from Rhyl, round Churchill island (do you know that you can phone the cafe and order coffee to be delivered to the old jetty in 15 minutes?), back around Ryhl point and up the inlet to the channels in the mangroves. Had a look at a sailing ship wreck, had a seal surface under the kayak, and had a nasty paddle home against the tide and a strong wind change. I wonder If I'll stay awake for 4 corners tonight.

I'm astonished that you're the only one to pick that up....it is indeed 1.02 mm off to the right.......but I blind man on a galloping horse would be pleased to see it as it is!!

Melbourne roads can be particularly tasty after one of those big food festivals: Even the scraps that festoon the asphalt are haute cuisine. Much better than that over oiled Sydney slop!

Friends have arrived so we sat outside around the brazier and I have been applying the beer cure for my throat. I think it's worked, though it's possible my throat is just too drunk to notice any pain....I shall give an update in the morning.
I now have a clock and barometer to fit in the boat. It's made in China and though it looks like a Red Cedar mounting board it really is plastic but...shhh I don't want people to notice.
My take is that if you poke someone with a sharp stick they'll get annoyed, if you smile and shake their hand they will be your friends.

If I was a surfer , I wouldn't have to go far to get miles of huge waves , and all to myself.
But I've never surfed , and are never likely to .
But I'll hear the surf booming tomorrow , the waves will be coming in right along "our" beach. I can't see it for the big dune , but I can sure hear it !.
The wind surfers though should have a ball at Portland , plenty of hang time .
But I'm "confined to barracks" for a while , but I might drive down to the mouth of "our" river , to see the waves coming over the sand bank.

Wind from the north tonight, 23c today with patchy high level cumulus. Short chop on the bay. I got wet today sailing, water's cold. I think I'll give surfing a miss tomorrow.
Griff was good tonight, beautiful yacht Sprit, but Josephine get's my vote.

Had an unexpected visitor for tea, but she brought champagne and a very good red so I watched the show over a full glass. And it wasn't my first. I didn't hear much but enjoyed the pix.

I think I'll have that translated into Latin and included in my coat of arms, when I get a coat of arms ....... hmm, only an octopus would want a coat of arms!
I'll print it on a t-shirt instead! Or a hat!

I seem to be in the grips of a cold and apparently my snoring was pretty bad last night. It must be true because I woke up with a headache.
Right, that's the morning grumble out of the way.
I should have the keel join primed today and I might try and run the engine for a minute now that the air leaks are sorted.
Duncan could you PM me the name and phone number of the bloke that painted the name on TMP please?
