Well it looks like Redwings demise and the acquisition of the TS16 is to be fast tracked to March/April.

Just found out that Popes Eye, 3 NM inside Port Phillip from the heads has a reef camera. Not a bad screen saver if you have plenty of data!

Nice. Very Australian bush building; hardwood, tin, gumtree.

Starting on todo lists. Sending emails to scrap dealers to get a valuation on 800kgs of lead. I'm also going to have to downsize my outboard and I'd really like to get a 4 stroke 4-5hp this time...just looked at new prices...Jesus H!

Sometime back I picked up a 3.6m x 200mm x 100mm length of timber...roadside throwout. Had it sitting on a couple of drums for just as long. Never quite knew what I could use it for. So I need to build a cradle for my boat so I figured I'd rip it down the middle for the rails. Turns out it's solid Australian Teak or possibly Yellowwood. There's no way I can cut it up for a boat cradle now...still don't know what to use it for.

If you move enough equipment and fittings from Redwing into the new boat then she will merely undergo a transition into a new form, not a "demise".

It's like the bicycle I've had such fun riding around Europe on; it's had six new wheels, two handlebars, three seats, two seatposts, two sets of gears, and three frames - but it's still good ole faithful and still the same old bike.

There will be a certain amount of gear that will transfer. Redwings rig will be going on a tophat in Victoria as it's way too big for a 16. The outboard will be sold or traded for a 4-5 hp long leg. My 9.9hp is too big and way too heavy. I would really like to get a 4 stroke 4 or 5hp long leg. There are some 2nd hand ones in my price range. New are waaaay to expensive for me.
When I did the big rebuild on Redwing at Boatworks Peter Sibley wanted me to rename her Washington's Axe. I didn't but I did name the article I wrote after his suggestion.

If Gary moves the plywood from Redwing I into Redwing II we'll have to kill him.

I thought most of Redwing 1's gear would be unsuitable, but I was just being a sentimental fool! :-)

Now if I had gone with the original plan of getting a Tophat 25 it would have worked...but then I would have had to find the dollars. This way Redwing provides the dollars for the new boat...with some spare, well Kez has her fingers crossed on that bit.

Amongst many things I am presently thinking about is maximizing cabin space in a TS16. I am wondering, if the cockpit seats were closed in and open at the fo'ard end to the cabin, would there be enough room to slide a portapotty back under the seat?

No sailing Sunday, the state has been closed down for 5 days as a result of an escape of the Brit, extra-infectious strain. Some returning family using a nebuliser illegally has resulted of a complete close down of one of the quarantine hotels.

    Back working from home.

I will be starting each day with an hours walk / run along the beach. In the evenings I might finish the new forward hatch for the boat. I got the auto pilot working but adjusting the string set up that aligns the electromagnet with the moving piston is a real headache. Still working on it.

I wonder if 5 days is enough, several new contact points and a relative of one of the infected quarrantine workers registered positive today.

I did hear it said that the UK strain is doubling in the US every 10 days.

Looking for a supplier of code zero sail cloth around 150gsm.
Just for the record I had not heard of code zero till today. It's basically spinnaker cloth.

Looks like I may have found a 150gsm ripstop nylon that may do the trick.
Very soggy today and it looks like staying that way for several days. I'm working on my son's shed/cabin cleaning up and painting all the steel trusses and wall frames. So far I've done one side each of two trusses...only another six trusses to go.
