Hi Rick, That is how we did it, no bridle as we don't have bowsprit. It worked very good

Antifouling done, outboard impeller done, rot in Transom done, toenails Cetolled. But more rot found in topside.
I think it's time to make the decision on what happens next. But we will get some sailing over the next 6 months to a year first.

Hopefully the scrap value of the ballast will cover the cost of scrapping. I may be able to sell the rig.

That's a bu**er Gary, but you've been fighting rot for some time, and the climate up there cannot help.

Redwing....after a decent bit of river sailing is going to be repurposed as a guest cabin.

Look out for a donor hull, Gary. My boy has done that with a ply Townson 28. Pics somewhere, maybe The scale of the Thing thread, last couple of pages.

I'm thinking maybe something smaller on a trailer....if I decide I want to continue sailing.

Okay looks like we're in the market for a fibreglass hull 24 to 26 ft long.

Kerry and I talked it over last night and I'm to look for derigged 24 to 26 ft hull preferably with a long keel. However the budget is zero at present so there is no great rush.

    Today's One Liner Chuckles.

There was a prison break and I saw a midget climb up the fence. As he jumped down he sneered at me and I thought, well that's a little condescending.

Okay I know it's not kosher to talk about frozen snot boats but I need a bit of help.
In the 24ft to 26ft range I know about Tophat, Triton and Endeavour. What are some others?

The Pelorous Motor sailers were quite popular here in NZ....I suppose there are some in OZ.
Then there was the Cavalier designed by the famed Bob Salthouse.

I believe Davidson 28s were marketed as Cavaliers in AU too. I don't think you got the Raven 26, like the one Anne Hill converted to junk rig.?

I used to crew on a Tasman 26. Nice boat for plastic. Roomy, as it had gobs of tumblehome.

Tophats convert to JR quite well but I can't imagine derigged ones being that common.

Should have emptied the rain gauge last night it only holds 100mm. So over 100mm since 2pm Friday.

Very green and very soggy, and our Wet Season doesn't usually start for another month or so.

Crossing looks very handsom with a full level of water Gary.

I can see why the Top Hat appeals, not so much the Tasman 26.

Another 104mm since yesterday afternoon. Thunderstorm last night shook the house. Major flooding with some areas of Murwillumbah being told to prepare to evacuate. High tide is expected to be around 30cm higher than normal. Completely safe here but we are out of chocolate.

Tophat ticks the boxes Jeff. I'm remaining open minded to other designs though.

There's a JR rigged Top Hat around Sydney. The owner is "BlueMoon" on the Seabreeze forum, I think.

As Rick says, Top Hats are eagerly sought after (perhaps because of the myth that they were designed as a pocket cruiser whereas the truth is that they are a rule-beating pocket offshore racer). In that style and size a 'glass Folkboat or Triton 26 (not 24/28) may be easier to find on a budget.
