Don't forget the lead ballast blocks they are stacked against the tool lockup in the shed. Carol is happy with the outcome Tom.

They have, along the contents. Am I correct in understanding that this same ship lost containers on a previous voyage?

Hi, I have heard from an old ships captain who keeps a close watch on all things to do with ships and shipping that after a first inspection of the APM Container ship inspectors have found poorly maintaied fixing points (rusted) poor quality lashings. The ship is now detained in Brisbane untill repairs are carried out. Frank also indicated the ship was 19 years old meaning it had only 1 year to its end of life and off to the breakers.
The salvage effort off the coast of Newcastle last month recovered all but 5 of the containers that came of a ship about 2 years ago which is a good effort considering the containers were in 110meters. The shipping company and the Australian Government are still before the courts having a argument as to who pays for the salvage costs.

For those of you who don't have enough clamps (i.e., <500), Aldi are selling some next Wednesday. Their F clamps are very good and cheap. Their quick clamps are junk, like most Aldi tools.

I agree but it is amazing what kids can be taught to do. And they're probably not even full-size guitars!

They do look like they're having fun to me.

I came across it accidentally but when I played it, about a zillion other Youtubes of tiny kids playing music came up. A lot of it is truly amazing. Not all of it is from North Korea!! There's one clip of a kid with a Spanish name - he looks about 7! Plays like John Williams! Amazing and depressing

Windy! but we had gusts of over 50 knots here last weekend. I wouldn't want to be out in it.

Having said that .... Masina's previous owner reckons that Masina will sail well in 40 knots plus with just the staysail. So, meolmate David and I plan to take her out soon on one of those days and test the theory. It won't happen til we've shipped the inlaws back to Sydney and I've done some more fiddling on the boat but it will be fairly soon. I'm looking forward to it. I don't plan to go to sea in any wild gales but it could, of course, happen, so I'd like to be prepared, and I do really enjoy being out in really strong wind in more protected water. Port Stephens is good that way as there isn't much to run into and there are mud and sand bank options if we get caught out.

Took the canoe out sailing this afternoon. Only an hour or so because of the tide, and because of the cold and brisk breeze. It was good to get out on the water, but 1.5 hours was enough.

Masina will be fine in 40 plus I'm sure. Not something you'd seek out on a passage. But as you say it might be fun, if you are in it deliberately.

This came up when the previous owner and I were beating into 40 in his boat, just south of Tasman Is. I asked how he thought Masina would behave in that situation and what rig would he suggest. He said Masina would sail really well with just the staysail - so I'm keen to see how she goes. She goes really well with reefed main and blade jib in 30+. Dumping all that for just the staysail should be interesting.

Not sure if you are aware but there is an range of cabins in Crescent Heads up for auction trough Loyds .The previous batch of ex Olympic ones in Sydney went very cheap. Transport may be create additional costs due to being a wide load.

I’m actually toying with the idea of buying a block on Mcleay Is and transporting a cabin rather than building.

I put it all here when I installed it about a year ago. It's a Nanni 42hp that's 20 years old but had never been run. It's still only done about 20 hours but that'll change soon.
