Tomorrow is going to be even hotter. I'm going to dust off this stuff and give Balias bottom a clean.

Ah, nice project! Someone you know?

3 hours under water scraping a veritable marine park off the bottom of the boat. Not quite finished yet, but somewhat buggered so that will do for today.

I think we need a weather report from Gary.

A couple of things I've been working on ...
The things on the left include a new exhaust mixer/riser to help prevent back flooding. I had this made, all I did was the lagging. The bracket-looking-thing is a cover to prevent anyone treading on the sounder sensor. It's formed from fibreglass and epoxy. The brownish plate is a bit of sheathed foam shaped to provide fall in the bottom of my gas locker. It'll be glued in tomorrow. Installing the new engine put Masina back on her lines but it altered the angle of the gas locker so water collects in it now, hence the new bottom. The greenish plate is a 12mm fibreglass base for the new windlass.
I'm getting more used to making things from fibreglass. I reckon you could probably build a boat with it.
The box on the right is the tray I built for the new fuel tank. The tank's in it now and actually fits but I don't have a photo. I'll try to remember to take one.
Windy here - it's summer.

Nice work!
Very tidy,!
Re the disappearance of the sandbars in ther Inverloch Estuary, and the change in sailing conditions.
It was quite interesting, A gusty SW wind, plenty of water, you could sail right across the estuary. The other change is sea conditions, quite different on the shallows over the ex bank, and the mitigation of the current.
Being so open now the club beach and ramp are more exposed, and the whole area more vulnerable to the swell and a steep chop as the wind increases. But it was great not to have to dodge banks and bars whilst sailing.

All the tools and materials are on the boat for the cabin side repair. I head up this arvo.

May your measurements be accurate, your cuts straight and your epoxy well mixed. Good luck.

And your plywood not be from Bunnings ...
Rick
Plywood is crap. Have you worked out the root cause of your rot problems and taken remedial action on whatever is left of the original?

Torrential squalls blowing through here on a regular basis. Cold, the fire is lit again. Last week we had 34C, today 11c.
Still a bit of work to do on the boat before she goes back in the water. With this weather al least the hull isn't drying out so i'm getting time to get more done!
Simplicity is the ultimate sophistication. Leonardo da Vinci.
If war is the answer........... it must be a profoundly stupid question.
The root cause was 15 years under a tarp. When I sanded the boat back a lot of the top veneers of the cabin top and deck ply was cracked. Maybe if I had glassed it then I might have gotten away with it. Next year I will repair a section on the portside fore cabin top, fibreglass the port cabin side and doghouse cabin top and it's all done. All external joins are now either epoxy filleted, fibreglassed or both.

Sounds like light at the end of the tunnel

Speaking of a tunnels end this was my last boat build, and she’s finished except for the row lock sockets.

Weather warming slightly here, but not good for sailing yet…However 3 families joined the sailing club this morning. And 3 seldom used Club Lasers now have regular users. And our first tri, a Hobie double.
I wonder if there are yardsticks for them if he wishes to race?
Well done Tom. Hot again here tomorrow. Like everywhere I guess. More bottom cleaning I think.

Too much information.
Rick
My work on Redwing may be slowed down a bit. There's bushfire East of Nimbin, it's about 11 kilometres away but it's all tinder dry forest between it and me. Tuesday will be interesting.

Yeah good luck Gary, stay safe. Leave early. I saw a post by Aussie Barney I think on the bushfire thread, where he said he'd stay and defend, then leave if the leaves turned gray. Suicidal if you ask me. Get out early, don't die on the road.

If it comes through down hill and civilized I'll fight it otherwise I'm out of here.

Hot gusty and blustery here. From what I recall if your place I'd be outta there at first light, if not this afternoon.
