Yeah it's going to rain for the next week or so. I figure it's time to sand and paint the overhead. Not going to enjoy this.

No leaks.

Excellent! :-D

Might be a relatively lazy day aboard today. Main item on the agenda is a coat of unthinned epoxy where I've sanded back joins in the ply on the underside of the deck. Later on (not today) I'll flush those with some filler. If things dry out outside I may do some sanding on the deck, or my topside repairs, which I've decided to go ahead and flush and paint.

Mooring activities today. Just put new mooring line, float line and shackle on. I'll replace the ground chain to block shackle next week. I have to dive to do that one.
Rick
That second stage sounds like no fun.
Sent from my CPH1851 using Tapatalk
It's okay. I won't actually remove the old shackle. So, I just follow the chain to the block, put the new shackle and some seizing wire on, and surface. It's only about 8m deep but always murky, unfortunately. It'd be very easy in clear water.
Rick
Maritime have given me an ultimatum.
I must be back on my mooring by the 21st of June or i loose it.
So I've sprung into action.
Shipwright booked for next Thursday for survey.
Crane booked for Friday.
I've told Maritime i'll be on the mooring by Sunday.
Got two 240v pumps, and a gen set.
There's a diesel pump at my disposal too. Not sure how reliable that is.
Boat's got an okay electric bilge pump (and a new motor with a 90amp alternator), and a decent hand pump if it comes to that.
Wweeeeeeeeeee......!
It's all fun and games until Darth Vader comes.
Good luck with that! I find Maritime very flexible and understanding with their deadlines etc. If you find the boat's not really ready, I'm sure they'll give you more time, especially as you're so obviously doing what you can to comply.
Rick
What Rick said. Have you had a long dry summer like ours? How are your seams looking?
Sent from my CPH1851 using Tapatalk
The seams are visible through the paint, but not opened up in any significant way. You'd still find it work to chisel oakum in there.
I'm both really curious and terrified of how quickly it'll come in and how long it'll be for it to take up.
There's a waiting list in my mooring spot. Though three boat broke their moorings in the winds last week and ended up on the beach. So a few vacancies maybe. But they have been understanding of my predicament and accompanying extensions.

Rain is forecast on and off all day today so no boat. Yesterday I did everything I thought I might do, except 2 bits of side deck on the southern side of the main and aft cabin never got dry enough to sand. Might have to be turning the boat when it comes to top coats. That's a bit of a palaver with a 20 ton 50 foot boat with no engine controls and no cleats moored in a pen.

No boat work for me this weekend, I’ve pulled a lower back muscle lifting a couple of buckets of sand and yesterday I stirred it up further chainsawing firewood.
In a world full of wonders, man invented boredom.
Im taking my boat from Blairgowrie to Melbourne City Marina on Sunday, 30 nautical miles at 5 to 6 knots Weather looks ok.

A city waterfront apartment for the weekend?

7 Months ago. For the first time Ive set myself sort of a deadline. Well no, thats too strong a word. A target. No. A kind of ambition. Or an aspiration. A hope maybe, not necessarily a confident hope, but possibly stronger than forlorn. Anyway, I have a road trip to Perth, Bunbury really, in late August. Then most of September in Europe. Then something else for most of October. So it crossed my mind that mid August would make a good sort of a milestone, as it were. Actually I think thats too soon, and unlikely to be reasonable, but its a thing to keep in mind, something to strive for.

Got a cabin heater?

Keep on Phil. Have been enjoying this hidden gem in this great thread. Look forward to talking to you about it in September. Give me a call if you need a second hand to sort things out.
Felicity and I were talking with a friend this afternoon about what we would do once the deck is done. I mentioned our vague thoughts. Kind of a loop from here to Tassie, NZ, Tonga, Fiji, maybe over to Eastern PNG and back down the East coast. When? they asked. I said Oh it's all a bit vague, maybe after Henry who is in year 12 now finished Uni. Felicity said No, we're going in 18 months. Yikes.

I've got a small modern electric heater for when i'm in the marina. I think its called a ceramic heater han blows out hot air. One of the jobs on the list is to move the toilet from the front starboard corner of the cabin to under the forward hatch. That would open up the cabin and i'm putting a wood heater there. A little sardine SARDINE STOVE INFO & SPECS. or a Hobbit The Hobbit, Small Multi Fuel Cast Iron Stove I like the look of the Hobbit.
A good doona and a beanie if we are away from power.

A bit frustrating. Beautiful sunny day. I was hoping to get a coat of primer on my deck. But the last bits of epoxy I put on yesterday to fill a few scraper marks in the previous coat are not dry enough to sand. So I've been flushing ply joins in the deck head, which was to be a job for a rainy day, and put a coat of primer on the topsides, from the rubrail to the deck. And on the topside crack repairs. Hoping to have the deck done to 1 coat of gloss this week. Then I'll pop the deck fittings back on and finish off with another coat of gloss, grippy granuals and the final coat of gloss.

I think you have to import them. A mate has a Sardine in his boat, Jane. I'll ask him what the deal is.
The trip to Docklands was a was a straightforward run. Its always good to give the old Perkins a workout. I was listening to some of my tunes on the headphones and the motor was in perfect tune with one of the instrumentals.

I thought that was the case. I was planning on making my own one
Do they allow you to tie up there now? I sailed myself to lunch there, booked and all, in my dinghy a few years ago. Security guard was not going to allow me to tie up at what was a 'public' wharf. I had to get the restaurant to phone him and he still wasn't happy. I guess my dinghy wasn't expensive enough to qualify……..![]()
I’ve never had a problem....suppose that means I finally must have made it!I’m at The Melb City Marina. They are just about begging people to stay over in winter, there are no other boats on the east pontoon where I am.

Looks like an unwindy day. Great idea for a place to stay in the city.

It's fantastic. The lounge / kitchen area with courtesy wi fi is on the 2nd floor overlooking the marina, and there is a large covered balcony with bbq's ect. Then theres laundry and shower facilities. A few years ago i was staying at the marina when the White Night festival was on so we stayed on the boat for the weekend and had friends meet us at the lounge for dinner then went out on the town. A highlight was Shane Howard and Paul Kelly doing the Songs and Tales of Irish Australia show at Hamer Hall.
