When I first joined WBF they made me write a book to prove I was a real yachty. I was so gullible.
I accidentally fell in the creek one winters morning. I just slid in and rolled on to my back as I hit the water, all in slow agonizing motion...it was breathtaking.

So there I was on the end of the berth, adjusting my docklines. I was about to stand up and out of the side of my eye I saw this dick just standing there. So I grabbed the dick to pull myself up, but the dick was nowhere near as solid as it looked. As I held on and pulled the dick, to my surprise and consternation the dick went from vertical, to horizontal, to just hanging down. It didn't matter how hard I held onto the dick, or how hard I pulled on the dick, it just flopped down. And there I was, sopping wet. Nothing to be done for it, I let go of the dick and immersed myself in cold, refreshing water. I felt cleansed, invigorated, free.

I'd have laughed my head off too, if I was Bruce.

Wipes tears from corners of eyes.
In aug 68 I was a TA on a fisheries research team on Eucumbene. While crossing (with chest waders) the vestigial flow from Tantangara outflow tunnel into Eucumbene I slipped and fell into a deeper section (tunnel was shut for inspection). Waders filled but I kicked up my legs and swam out. No dry clothes so I wrang them out and went back to work. Then a blizzard rolled through. O dear

Today I think I'll put some more paint on my deck. (Say that with a Kiwi accent). And on my Cock pit floor. Roll it on. Might rub it down first with some wet and dry.

Do it dry , Phil, set a precedent.
Reminds me of a friend telling me he'd dropped his cellphone in the tide. Not too clever , I said, how did you do that?
Well, he says, there I was just stepping off the dock onto the counter of Tucana and my cellphone just went into the water.
and Coincidentally, so did I.

Sailing vicariously by proxy this morning. Sitting up in bed with a coffee checking out the progress of a family from Largs in SA as they head out into the blue to cross the Atlantic in their boat Roam. They have just finished replacing the standing rigging and chainplates in the days running up to the last few practical departure dates available to them. Hopefully there are no gotchas they haven't yet found.

First day of winter after a very warm autumn, suddenly the alpine passes are closed due to snow. It's cold, wet and sh***y here in Christchurch, doesn't look like we'll get any snow though. There is another system coming through mid week that might drop the some down to sea level.
The three fur babies are all alternating between a spot as close to the log burner as they can get, and somewhere a bit cooler .

Just caught up with the thread.
Farewell and fair winds on your next adventure, Mr. Sibley. You are one of the good ones.
About the same time, and on Sunday and Monday, I was snorkeling outside the pools and rock shelf at Austinmer (a couple of km south).
I followed a *big* stingray out over the seagrass beds for a bit. When it occurred to me to stop and look around I was more than a hundred metres off shore. It was like a lake. Perfectly clear and absolutely stunning. The best I've seen it in many years.

I'll be there tomorrow. Is there a gathering place other than the Chapel if I get there an hour or more early?
We won't make it there tomorrow, unfortunately. Kindest regards and condolences to all.

Likewise, will be thinking of Peter and his family and friends.
Assuming I continue to be capable of thought. Sometimes Ii reckon I'm going to end up like one of those footballers with multiple concussions over a period of years. Balia has headroom, but lots of bits that are just less than headroom.
