Thanks Phil! Ran the engine today - started immediately and ran smoothly. Launching tomorrow early so we'll see how it actually goes!

Just wanted to let you know that I got a small royalty payment for Drift. I don't get them often but the buzz I get is worth a million bucks every time to know that someone out there is still interested enough to buy a copy.

Thank you all again to the friends here that pushed me to write Drift. It came out of me at a significant turning point of my life.

The reminder made me look for photos and videos of Seawind 24s. There's a neat video of a bloke sailing across Bass Strait in 30 knots of wind, haring along at around 18. He looks very wet and tired. As he should.

I use the cheapest Bunnings ones. Black handles. The site lists them as 79c each.

Bunnos. Sometimes in packs of five if you can find them.

Not sure. I had a crack at a fictional sailing story but fiction doesn't measure up and I got bored with it. There's another short sailing book in me but it hasn't quite coalesced, whatever that means. (I read it somewhere.) I'm too easily distracted.

In retrospect, when Drift fell out of my head in a manic spasm of keyboard bashing, my brain chemicals were way out of balance. It coincided with me being gleefully retrenched from a job I really needed to leave behind. Now my brain chemicals are pharmaceutically regulated, and the mad manic creative mountains and desperate deep depressive valleys have been tunnelled and bridged and the path is straight, flat and narrow. My brain is comfortable like an old fawn cardigan with a diamond pattern weave, and twice as boring.

I suppose Arawanas Voyage would be slightly deja vu. Die Hard II.

Maybe it's a platform for that more serious, introspective book.

Would that be the diesel gods who ensured that the wires on the new alternator go to different places than the wires on the old alternator and aren't labelled, therefore costing me another $110 for a marine electrician? Them is nasty gods, them ones.

All gods have a weird sense of humour, a proven fact.

Small Gods is brilliant - especially the tortoise conundrum and the dying gods. A favourite amongst many!

Not so brilliant about the southerly progression of venomous tropical stingers (amongst many other nasties) as the waters (and air) warm up...

I expect to live long enough to see the range of bull sharks extend south on both sides of the continent. They may be disinclined to head west beyond Wilson's Promontory but they'll include all waterways up to and including the Gippsland lakes in their extended territory if I'm not mistaken.

This guy is very optimistic. Also a master of understatement.
It is (was) a Flying Dutchman, a Mader hull.
    From an ad in Gumtree:

THIS BOAT HAS SUFFERED MAJOR DAMAGE.

IT IS REPAIRABLE BUT THIS WILL PROBABLY ONLY BE FEASIBLE IF YOU ARE A BOATBUILDER OR HAVE ECONOMICAL ACCESS TO THOSE SKILLS.

They may just be reclaiming lost territories. Below is a picture of the last croc shot in the Logan river just south of Brisbane.
