The real reason is that I spend all my time building instead of doing picture-worthy boat things and when we do do boat things, well, how many photos along the bow do people really want to see?

At least my pictures are the right way up.

I'm not sure whether the phone or the camera was upside down. Anywhey let's milk this one for all its worth. See the creme de la creme at work.

Wheyll I appreciate the posting and will follow up the suggestion re camera selection, if those shots are the creme de la creme then maybe I'll see if I can find something that performs beyond yoghurt. On the other hoof, it seems likely that the shots displayed were not taken with the recommended camera but, rather, with the recommended phone?
Aaaanymoo, I'll so some meandering, chew the cud, and see what develops. I was going to say 'emerges' but decided that might lower the tone.

I spent yesterday in the engine bay routing 10mm off the top of the engine beds. This was a bit noisy and dusty so it's lucky that I'm deaf and my lungs already have a protective coat of fibro dust. The engine template fitted well before so this step is to accomodate 10mm of SS angle that'll form the upper and inner faces of the beds.

Great to hear your making good progress on your new engine installation .

Also you want to watch out for that fibro dust, and that is coming from someone who used to work in an Asbestos mine where the mined product was littering the tree and blueberry lined gravel transport track between Clinton Creek and Dawson City, similarly to the Cotton lined roads around Emerald Queensland.

I wasn't entirely serious about the fibro dust. ....

I did demolish an entire asbestos roof when I was a kid though.

What is a readily available wood/material in Oz for making some 8-metre battens for fairing the moulds and stems of a 20’ double-ender?

Ripped radiata or Tas oak boards? Something else?

    Cheers,
    Alex.

I bought some very long lengths of Tas Oak flooring and ripped mine from that.

Framing timber - H2, comes in 6m lengths and it's easy to find straight bits. I don't know where you'd find 8m lengths. Flooring is a good suggestion.

Thanks, Peter and Rick, I’ll have a scrounge around. I can always cut long scraphes to join shorter (but not too short) bits together. Cheers, Alex.

Season opening at the club today. Six new boats and winds 15-22kts made sailing interesting. Many swims were had, a few breakages, and a good day was had by all.

Video is quite acceptable with no distortion and the zoom works nicely as well.

I might try the cord. And an external hard drive since computers tend to die. I'd prefer cloud storage but need one way syncing. I'm sure it must be possible but I'm a simple soul.

Same thought when on the rare occasions I go sailing. There are only so many angles to photograph the boat from.

And here's me thinking, wow, a mock up,of the new motor to see if it fits. Brilliant. I wonder how he did that? Full copy? A flat spine with critical dimensions sticking out? A box with a few bits hanging off? Interesting, if only I could picture it. Well, if only Rick pictured it.....

Absolutely last chance. If anyone wants either or both - free - contact me before I finish my cup of tea

One is an IYE Tornado wing mast - from the days before spinnakers and double trapezes. The other is a Dragon mast.

The rigging for both is here... as are the Tornado beams. I'm cutting the masts up as soon as I've finished my cuppa - and paid a bill.

I've offered both before. They are free... free... free.... but they are about to get cut and go get recycled.

I've got the job as club compound manager this year, lots of new boats both club and members' boats after storage. Two Cats at 19ft take up a lot of room. In the hedge at the back of the club I 'discovered' a rack of masts, booms and assorted bits festooned with perfectly good blocks and other expensive bits. Probably 20 masts for who knows what, and then there the 10 or so in the roof of the last old rack.
Then there's the old boats, mixture of wood and plastic, 'too good to throw out' says the committee, but no room for the new ones……….
And some have only been used twice in 2 years, some others not even that…………...

Pity about the Dragon mast especially.

Back to the eye specialist today, got there and hour early but didn't seem to have to wait too long. He was pretty happy with the eye. Back in 6 months, possibly to get the stitches out and the cataract get done a year later. Good news is I only have to take one tablet a day and instead of paying $35 a pack I can get them from the hospital pharmacy for $6.40...so $12.80s worth will last a month. Downside is a visit each month to get them.
Switched my mobile over to Aldi, $15 a month for unlimited calls and 2 Gb of data. I was paying Telstra $20-30 a month for zero data.
