At present (6.30) there's big thunderstorm about.

Mainsheet system for the International Cadet works like a Mirror (same designer), need a ratchet block for the floor and the block at the end of the boom.
I may have one a little smaller than Rick's offering,I'll look tomorrow .

Okay who watched the doco on the May Queen on the ABC?
I caught it by accident and it was superb.

Rather simplistic driven by production timelines. Having been there the grunt work wasn't shown.

Ricks is a bit of an overkill for a 10 ft boat.

Rick, I sent you some pics of the moth from my phone. I quite good order and a very early sail number, in the 800's. But ther isa another sail with a 1300 number so I don't know which one applies. It's on a trailer but……… I don't think that's moved for some time………….

I watched it on iView - being such a modern chap. I thought it was great. If you haven't read through the Defiance article I posted above, you really should. It's terrific and the photos are beautiful.

Jeff, that block isn't very big. A smaller diameter mainsheet would be a pain to handle. I'll check the photos - thanks!

I enjoyed the defiance article too, thanks Rick. 8 kids, great depression. What the heck, might as well build a rule beater. See how it goes. Amazing.

Closer to home and the present day, what better to do than remove some deck on New Year's Eve? Pleased to see the deck beams are in perfect condition.

Glad you've seen the light ..... and lots of it! Great work!

The workbench might not be adequate.

How have you managed to keep it all so clean and tidy? If I was doing this, the wharf and the interior would be knee-deep in dust and chips.

Well, it's all about camera angles. But I am being careful because I don't even know if there might be some bylaw against working on wooden boats in the marina. Might back it in for the day as I don't want to risk messing up someone's NYE BBQ with the sound of screaming power tools. Plus I'm slightly PTSD about the progress made today.

I've put most of the wreckage into a nice heap in the foredeck.

It's good to see you're getting stuck into it, Phil
Good news about the deck beams.
I was about to comment on the lovely glass-topped workbench, but Rick beat me to it.

Defiance is a breathtakingly beautiful boat, Rick. Thanks for sharing that.

Some of you'll remember the little trawler/snapper boat we were loosely connected to the restoration of? Aaaaanyway, since I'm still waiting for a gearbox part for Masina, we're stealing/borrowing Gem for a little excursion out onto the bay this evening. It's been really muggy here so it'll be nice to be out there in the little bit of breeze we have. The excuse is fireworks watching but whenever we do it, we only ever seem to catch a few flashes in the distance so I really couldn't care less about that. I just like being out on the water. Woody spotted his lifejacket going into the bag so he's pretty happy about it too!

Have a really wonderful 2019 everyone!!

Prosperous? This is a wooden boat forum. Or did you mean preposterous?
