Almost chilly yesterday morning but boy o boy didn’t it warm up. I had hoped to get the port side toe rail on but I settled on getting some topside paint back on plus a few small jobs. Home today but I’ll be back up there tomorrow.

Although I'm not sure the timing is right for those who are harvesting their hay. Apple pear and cherry growers are none too happy either.

Lots of sympathy for the growers. I remember having 5000 zucchini plants shredded to pulp by hail a couple of times. No pay for 6 weeks, "suck it up". All part of my Certificate 4 in Applied Peasantry. TM. My own course description.

Went for a little sail on Pixie today. We circumnavigated Amsterdam.

Yep. That's the beastie. I get confused easily.

It also happened to be the day we finally got coordinated with a local drone photographer and I get to see what Pixie looks like under sail.

Do you like the combination of tan and white sails Matt? I think Pixie looks good like that. Masina's Saul's are all white but the staysail is tan and I have a spare main that's tan. I think for cruising I'll use the combination of yankee, staysail and main a fair bit.

I fixed the photo. If you refresh the image the outboard will be gone... while still magically being Very Useful And Reliable. :-)

Those are the only sails I have, so they're my absolute favourites. :-)
(correction: I do have a staysail which is a 16' skiff jib, and white as white. I haven't set up sheeting for that one)

I think Pixie looks cute like that, but I'd most likely go all cream sails if I was getting new ones. She'd still look damn cute.

If modifying/reusing sails I have no qualms about using whatever I find. Wizbang's Woodwind does have a certain charm with the various coloured bits 'n' bobs each with its own story.

If my understanding is right, of the truly 'traditional' rig; the working sails were tanned to preserve them, as they were always on the boat. Main and staysail at the most, maybe only the main. Additional sails were untreated, as they were not left out in the weather.

That red jib on Pixie is pretty buggered. The leach and foot are nearly sunbleached off altogether. I removed a UV strip which was trashed by being left out forever on a furler (which I certainly contributed to), and the cloth underneath was well blasted too. It's hanked on now, and will do for the moment.

The main will be replaced first. It's acrylic/canvas blend and more than one passerby has freaked out because they thought it was cotton!
It feels like cotton. It evokes thoughts of old painting drop sheets. ;-)

The whole mob was aboard today, as we were looking for a photo to print for the grandparents.

Mostly only half of us go, but on a day like today when the foredeck and cabin top are safe there's room for everyone to keep out of each others way.



Especially when there's all that lounge space in the mainsail.

Well me missis mixed (M and F) 8 crew (60 to 64 y.o. ) won their age division at the Head of the Yarra on SAT. Beat 2 others and both the 70-74 and 75 to 85 crews. 8 kilometres in a time of 34 minutes, 243 boat entries. Not too bad and lots of bends to navigate, unlike the Charles in Boston. Yarra Yarra is the third oldest event of that nature world wide (was the 60th anna of it). Peace reigns at home. Back in training tomorrow. A rowing widower's life for me... and the World olduns in Hungary next year, after that 3 weeks in Italy to recuperate and pig out on pasta and white truffles! La dolce vita.

I'm chuffed Well done Lydia (I hope I have the name right!!!) and crew. It's a very taxing race to put it very mildly. I've rowed it once and coached it several times, and coxed a few. My best to you lot and congrats on the win and that very good time.

Apols. Raw time 35:35 time as the H to I had a 6 minute advantage! Finished #148 of 248, Had 5 female members incl a 28yo and Graeme a 75yo fella otherwise would have rowed as a G.. The rest fielded 4+4. Yes Bruce it is the very lovely Lydia, They beat crews incl Schools and the very many of A-C. How humiliating!

Ok, vets starts at age 28. It goes in 5 year increments from A downwards. SO a crew in the mean H group means ancient mariners, in fact there's a group named that. There was a womens four at Lake Barrington mid June 2015 where the youngest was 82!

Well, I have no idea what any of that means but I assume it's good so .... well done!!
