Yes, read it cover to cover at least a hundred times (so far). Initially I had been thinking to copy, but have some reservations, the biggest being that dyneema's weak point is high temperature... apparently over 70 degrees is enough to damage it. So bearing in mind that my part of the world sometimes hits 50 degrees in the shade, what do you reckon are the chances for a rig made from dyneema, wrapped in mat black serving, sitting in the sun in summer?

Toast! I wasn't aware of Dyneema's temperature sensitivity! Here in the NW US we don't have that heat problem...hypOthermia tends to be more of an issue. Thanks for the heads-up...I'll obviously have to do more research before I think Dyneema for rigging as we do see 30-32 C fairly often in the summer... and sub-zero C in the winter.

There are some strength by temperature data published by DSM which should be easy to locate with some googling. Dyneema is supposed to be excellent for cold temperature, so depends where you're going. I suspect bare dyneema, or dyneema with a pale coloured cover may be ok even in a hot climate. A black cover, however, might get too hot in some parts of the world. Having said that, Spectra is essentially the same material and has been around for decades, yet I've not heard of temperature related failures even though some ropes have quite dark coloured covers. All a bit confusing really.

OK forgive a dumb question from an ignorant fool, but what actually is a Jointer? Looks like a table saw and a planer in one bit of iron. Durden Junior, any good? If it does t get any bids this one looks like it would turn a profit as scrap metal if nothing else. Or be a good mooring weight. But possibly even a good way to make loud noise and wood shavings? http://www.graysonline.com/lot/0234-...-sa?redirect=0

A Durden Junior Jointer is a combination machine, some people like them but I prefer separate machines.

I have a 12'' wide jointer, a surface planing machine.

On the left is a jointer with a thicknesser or thickness planer on the right.

A Tumlaren that's on boatsales.com.au for some months has just had its price dropped. From $10,000 to $4,000 and it looks to be in grear shape. I guess they need it gone. Very tempted.

They are the nicest boat to sail, just perfectly behaved. And that one has the enclosed cabin. Definitely buy it.

    Maybe..
Having just discovered a need for the a/c on my car to be fixed for what's looking like a similar amount, i have a dilemma.... A second boat, or cool driving in summer? Bad timing.

Cars didnt even have aircon when that boat was built. Get into the moment. Buy the damn boat! Imhad one for several years, absolutely loved it. Felicity and I honeymooned aboard. In fact I proposed to her aboard too.

Also, if your aircon repair is going to cost $4k then you're driving altogether the wrong kind of car! Sell it and get the boat! :-D

Good luck with the eye, Gary.

Had a good start to the week myself... sold Grantala (fingers crossed... paperwork being done on Friday). The new owner is coming to pick up the bronze, teak, etc. I guess I have to unload the ply I just loaded into the container. He got a bargain. $1 - I think there's about $9k in teak... let alone the other stuff. He knows what needs to be done too... and can do it.

Gary that photo looks right as it is. Bad news - they must have put the eye back in upside down.

Did you buy the Tum yet? A delight to slip as with her slack bilges there are really none of those horrible near horizontal surfaces to scrub and paint. Its more like painting a wall then a ceiling. Perfect balance in all weather, one finger on the tiller is more than enough. Very seaworthy. I survived a 48 hour gale with 70 knot winds and 12 metre seas out at the bottom of Spencer Gulf, Southern Ocean basically. It wasn't fun, but we got through it. And that was in the open cabin configuration. Sweet little thing, sometimes we could reach over the cockpit side and touch a dolphin swimming alongside.

Youre doing a great sales job here ;-)
But apart from the automotive a/c issue, yesterday morning a small unplanned hiatus in life.
I managed to knock a power drill off the bench, onto my foot and put a 1/16" bit into my instep. It then broke off, leaving about 1/2" - 3/4" of bit stuck in a bone. I was wearing thongs of course.
Surgery yesterday, general anaesthetic and all, plan is to be discharged later today with foot in layers of dressing and an ortho sandal thing on my foot... I am not gruntled.
i'll be talking to the Tumlaren owner this arvo.

Is too so to do with boats, as soon as I get the all clear on it I'll be hauling Redwing out for two to three weeks...so nah.
