Ha ha. It was for free. My brother in law used to have a shoe making business. They've shut it down. I think I will have to make a second level on the table, the business part of this machine is a few inches above the deck. I think for sewing inside boots. I suspect it will be strong enough to sew roofing iron, if ever I wanted to do that.

Glad to hear it because I worry that some of our puns are getting a bit sew sew. But better than getting tacky and no risk of being booted to another thread.

Don't encourage them. The merest hint of a pun and they descend like wild dogs onto a can of spam in a deserted camping ground the week after Easter. I suspect it comes from inhaling sanding dust from old red lead and antifouled bottoms. I've seen kiosk seagulls on a sunny Sunday more restrained than these punsters. And when they crack a triple entendre with a nautical theme you can just see them beaming at their screens like overfed house cats on a sunny sofa in an old lady's back bedroom.

The shoe fits so I'm wearing it. My only excuse is that unexpected boating costs have me on me uppers so skipping into a bit of light relief replenishes my sole.

And no, I wouldn't be game to moor a yacht in the Tweed (Gary's anchorage in the boat harbour is excellent!)

You should buy it. It's a very good boat and a bargain. Just the sort of boat that would suit you.

And while Peter tries those boots on for size, tomorrow is looking like a very nice day to take Balia out of her berth, motor out for a bit, drift around and have a BBQ on deck, then motor back in again. We might get some sails up just to shake the dust out of them, but I don't think they will even fill with wind.

Strewth! 11 grand, that's a poofteenth of bugger all compared to the cost of building the same from scratch. My boat, very much smaller than the Randell has already swallowed over 16 and that will double by the time she is ready to sail, and no engine either.

If she's as good as she looks, and Peter says she is, then I think it's a real bargain. I think we should all agree to kick Sibley's aft bit if he doesn't buy it!

If she successfully takes possession of Peter, I wonder where he will cruise? Sounds like the boats seaworthiness is well proven.

Australia's most popular cruising grounds are just to the north of where he lives.

It's been considered seriously but with the responsibilities I have here , Ellee and her children ( my grandchildren) I've realised I wouldn't be using her sufficiently to justify the ownership. She'd be better with a single bloke or a couple who could really sail her. I doubt I could get the time away.

JIM will satisfy my needs ..... I hope.

Jim certainly looks like the sort of boat that would be impossible not to have fun with, and small enough not to be a burden to her owner... difficult to see how you could go wrong. I reckon a wise choice Peter.

I agree. JIM has lots of advantages. It's a pity because the Rugged looks like a great boat. Hopefully someone you know buys her and lets you crew.

That would be good Bruce, actually a friend has asked me to crew on a run up to the Whitsundays sometime in the next few months, that will definitely be good. A 32 foot ketch, wood too.

I wouldn't say a pity... not really. Every boat is perfect in her own way, but no boat can be everything. The only pity happens if the owner of a boat gets distracted by what she is not and therefore misses what she is. The owner of a boat who is focused on the virtues of his boat will find no end of enjoyment and satisfaction. In this way either Jim or the Randell is a great choice and both have a huge amount to offer. I reckon well done Peter for being able to make a clear choice.
