Having just had a crown put over a broken off tooth, which needed the full root canal treatment as well, I'm full of sympathy Peter..in fact, I might just go and get a rum on the strength of that, because I'm remembering the discomfort again.. of the bill, not the tooth!

Rick as a matter of interest , yesterday when I went out to HS it was impossible to discern any of the prop.
A few minutes of forward and reverse cleaned it up pretty well though.
As a proud grandpa I've got to mention my future crewman , my grandson Lachlan , is playing in the Ozkick game at half time of the GoldCoast game tomorrow.
He is a little 5yo , no doubt he will be the smallest there , but he is a real goer .

We seem to get these particularly vigorous shell growths. The slime and weed get thrown off the prop but these things aren't bothered by it at all. I have to chisel them off with a screwdriver.

I'd have paid up quite happily, I rather liked that tooth but I wasn't given the option. .

Everything you pick up has some attempt at a glamour photo of one athlete or another portraying them as supermodels or something, absolutely bloody ridiculous. All about marketing of course, but this to me is negative marketing: where once I'd have been interested in looking in to see how we were going, I've gone right off the whole bloody thing as a result of this puncy behaviour.

I feel much the same, the athletes are just pawns in the game, so much flesh just to carry the advertising and national aggrandisement, and provide photo ops for pollies and TV 'personalities'. And talking of TV, you won';t see much of the games without paying for it, 9 will be 50% adds, promo's, self congratulatory opinion pieces from in house 'experts', and what coverage we get on FTA will be xenophobic in the extreme if only because all the other rubbish takes up so much time.
Cynical 'aint I? But then I've seen coverages before and each is worse than the last. And then of course there's the IOC, that travelling circus of freeloaders............ but that's another threads worth probably.

Yes it is really, it's not so very long ago that our athletes behaved with humility and good grace. It's unfair of me to brand all of them now with the same brush and the level of media attention wouldn't help.

I think you will find the vast majority are just as you hope .

Only a few sports get the attention here, often people in the more obscure sports, like fencing and pistol shooting, cycling and canoeing get more attention, and sponsors, OS than here. And if it's women's sport, forget it. Even Sally Pearson struggles for coverage other than when she wins a race.
We are a very narrowly focussed lot really. As far as the focus on Olympic Gold is concerned, we spend way too much on that goal and not nearly enough on participatory sport. But then we are rapidly becoming a nation of spectators, encouraged of course by commercial TV interests and especially football codes and their parasitic hangers on.

I'm feeling a little unloved way over here......I got HB emails from a whole lot of forums that I don't contribute to, including the tractor forum, a shooting forum, a fishing forum......not a dicky bird from the one forum that I do spend some time on. (perhaps it's because the others just don't know me quite like you lot do)
