Someone was asking about these things the other day. Haven't measured them, but around 300mm high, at a guess.

This one shows the screw that retains it and allows it to be rotated

I've got two on a flush deck... pointed away from the weather. The other two are facing forward, and on dorade boxes

Well, I just bought 2 from NZ. I need another 1 but could probably use 2. So, when I get the ones from NZ, I'll see how similar they are. If they're close enough, I could buy 2. With freight etc. the pair from NZ cost me $430. You might do better on Gumtree - I don't really know.

I'm not selling them... although, it does bring up an issue I've considered. What is Grantala worth? The old wooden boat needing work is always a difficult proposition. I'd probably make $15 to $20k parting her out. 2 rebuilt engines, albeit old tech. Old tech 8.5 kva genset. Anchor winch. Lots of bronze portholes. Dorades. The stanchions are works of art... Tanks. Filters. Bronze rudders. Gearboxes (ancient).... and so on. There's $6k of props on her a couple of years back. Probably worth $1k second hand... says he without looking. Got some teak... but I've cut that to thickness.

The old girl deserves to live on methinks.

Much better to see her live on. The value's there but old wooden boats, especially bigger ones, are just not sold easily. If it does come down to breaking her up, if you don't need the money, the Sydney Heritage Fleet or NMM might be interested, but even they're really only accepting boats that come with some sort of donation or fund these days, it seems.

It's a service only provided for foreigners. The locals can see it for themselves.

I can see it on the Windows Edge browser. It's hard to really see what the bar's like though. There's rain, and enough wind to make halyards slap, and a low wave running in the bay, but the bar condition isn't really visible with the web cam.

I'm sorry that the seller of the Cheoy Lee is not well. As some of you here know I've lusted after many boats over the last 3 years or so, and lust is never enough. Anyway, having this week to sit back and think has given me time for lust to subside, and for me to cool off. The great news for me is that it's more than lust, and I've not cooled off, and I've still got all the good feelings about the boat and I really want to buy it. It will be interesting to see the surveyor's report and get Greg's inspection findings.

There's a lot of wood in this fg boat so I do hope you can allow me to continue to share about it on here.

No, banned for even thinking about it!

I also really hope that it's a great boat and that you do buy it! Really looking forward to hearing all the new exploits!

Sounds like we may be reading about your adventure Bruce , wishing you good luck with the negotiations.

Having sailed aboard several CHoey Lee,s I found them to be well built boats that where generally built to Lloyds standards

Oh dear, my bronze vents from NZ turned out to be brass and not really suitable. So they're going back across the Tasman and I'm still looking for three bronze vents.

I'm feeling pretty good just now. Sheila's car has been playing up, intermittently not able to select any gears other than 2nd and neutral. No error codes generated, and the local independent mob don't know what it's about but quoted what the car is worth to look into it.

So, after much testing to isolate the behaviour and some help from a great website administrator, I located the fault and fixed it this arvo for the cost of a donation to the web site fund, less than $20.

Not so easy now to buy a new replacement part here to ensure it doesn't recur. Available in the UK for $10 plus postage, but they won't post to Aus. I'll chase up a way around that in the morning.

Good result Bruce. there are services where you pay for a local (overseas) address and they forward stuff to you here.

BTW what's that baby merc like as a car? Felicity has a tiny Mazda which is starting to cost more in oil than petrol and looking for a tiny replacement. Strong preference though for something with a bit of get up and go. Considering a VW Polo GTI. Not looking to spend much money at all though, less than $5k for preference.

Sheila loves the baby benz. Hers has a 1600 4cyl petrol engine and it takes her and James up the south road to Willunga and back every week with no probs. They are not without problems though. A MAFS issue is not trivial as it is part of the ECU, and replacement ECU/MAFS start at $1,500. We took a risk and spent $500 to have ours rebuilt in NSW, and so far it has gone sweet as a new one, but it is a risk. If you ask Sheila she would say at $5k you'd buy a lovely car. I'd say yes, and you'll learn to love every part, one by one.

If the car is sold in the USA, http://rockauto.com have very good prices and prompt delivery to the antipodes.
There is nothing quite as permanent as a good temporary repair.

Thanks, I'll check their catalogue. I used to buy parts from two US companies, RMEuropean and a Mecedes parts specialist supplier, and use a package on-forwarding service in CA, but I lost all the details in a hard drive crash, so recently I've been using ebay to source parts. There's always a way if you look.

    Cheers.
