Thanks - yes, I do know a mechanic I can ask. It's hard to tell how tight these bolts etc. are because the whole engine's covered in paint.

There is one little family in residence at the front gate, but that's all. Feral deer are quite a problem locally, but the property has a big deer proof fence all around it. Paddock next door often has up to 50 deer in it.

Wow ! The rabbits are bigger and wearing deer suits !

The little ones used to be thick on the ground when I lived there, sufficient for lots of good eating but the various diseases have done their work well.

Another X5... for the apprentice step-daughter. This one is actually the first X5 that I ever drove. A 2002, 3.0 litre petrol one. I seem to recall seeing 198 on my GPS in it some years back... on a private road, of course.... and it wasn't flat out.

It's kitted out with the lair machine body kit... and it's Estoril Blue, so the girls all like it.

There was a full Kombi on Grays online the other day. Bidding going strong at $50,000 last time I looked.

Is that a badly bingled passenger side door in the 2nd photo Greg? Good airscoops, mine were not very efficient.

Yep, thanks to drunk leaving the Heavitree Tap hotel at a stupid rate of knots at about 6am one morning. I couldn’t afford to fix it and ended up selling it to the panel beater who offered me more than I paid for it

Can I just interrupt this boring stream of .... er, discussion, and ask Greg what's happening with the boat? For the rest of you, a wooden thing with a pointy front and a mast, that floats. Not only in floods.

It’s still there Rick. Been doing a few small jobs in readiness and getting gear together but nothing worth posting about.

I had a change of priorities after I finished the cellar and was about to start on her. Bought about partly by the need to do a number of other projects on the house and (unpaid) projects for family and friends which seemed to be mounting up (I have trouble saying no - and don’t really want to when it comes to nephews and nieces anyway): kids bunk beds, kids trunk, shotgun refurb’, French doors, display case, sword display mount, a few little ones that can’t remember, fit out for the cellar (that I was going to do sometime later over weekends)..... then the fence for the new hound etc. Then slowed down by a dose of the flu and a now a slow few days getting over a rather painful wisdom tooth extraction.

But mostly my priorities were changed by the possibility of another job that I’ve been put up for. Not one that I particularly wanted, given the timing proposed (start 3 July for 11 months) but I’m not in a position to turn my nose up, particularly after they pushed and upped their price to what I said would be my minimum when I did turn it down initially (I thought that’d put me out of the running but would still show that I was interested in working for them at a later date - i.e. somewhere around Sept/Oct).

My big aim was (is?) to get the boat launched this year as her 50th anniversary year (also Kates) but when I was pushed on the job Kate suggested I take the pressure off a bit and leave the boat for the moment until I know what the outcome is and get all of these other small projects done. If it comes off I’ll have a few more $$ in the bank and although Larrikin may not go back in this year, I will still have plenty of time to take her to Hobart in 2019.

But, as usual, I don’t expect to hear anything from them until the day before they want me there......

I've actually been going down to the shed and staring aimlessly at JIM. It's been a year since I did anything on her and now I'm just trying to get my head back into the theme of boat work.
