Not pretty maybe Gary but a 'useful' boat not too difficult to maintain. There seems to have been some stretching done to some builds. Apart from the spoon stern she had a 3 port deckhouse. I've seen one on the hard with a deeper wooden keel grafted on with an iron shoe.

Another flat calm day here but no fog so I reckon I'll go for a paddle at low tide as part of my project to track the development from mudbanks to sand bars to islands as there were till the early 1970's when a big oil spill killed all the sea grass and mangroves and they washed away. In the last 5 years the sea grass has made a big comeback but it'll be a while before these banks are suitable for sowing mangrove seedlings yet.

Mirror calm again this arvo, paddled out of the river on the turn of the tide and then just sat in the sun for a while. Almost went to sleep and fell out! There were birds everywhere on the sandbars waiting for the tide, and so was I. I just let the tide take me back over the gradually flooding bars and through through the flocks of water birds. 18 species I could identify in the open and 5 more in the mangroves in the river and I didn't lift the paddle till I got to the landing. Magic. Reflections were so good that Pelicans and Egrets flying low were matched by their reflections, I really must get a waterproof camera with a telephoto lens.

Much cheaper to just get a Pelican case and only take the camera out of the case when it's not raining or too rough. Pelican cases are expensive but very good. Bunnings sell a range of waterproof cases that ought to be okay.

Quality varies a lot though Larks. Cheap means really poor images, brand name or not. Anyway, shooting birds.. is a big bucks pastime, if you don't want grainy.
I used to paddle with a pelican case, useful for storing car keys (which are electronic too) as well as other valuables.

6 hours of painting equals epoxy and fibreglass for the keel...my back hurts though. More of the same tomorrow means $$ towards my block order.

Looking forward to seeing you and the boat. Regarding your post, the budget requires careful management, and options are limited but we like it so far. Having the bush and the sea with a major city just an hour away took a few years planning, research, a lot of luck and a bit of a leap at the crucial moment. I give every credit to Anne for seeing through the junk and dirt and old cars and the smell in the part built house and the mud, to see what a great block it was. The agent said every woman who'd seen it before looked on the surface and said ''No way".
