Seems his presence on line might be attracting some unwanted attention, so he's gone offline for a while. Expect more work will get done on his boat.

I put a rope fender on Beetle today. Very un-shippy with zipties. I'll redo it with some decent braided line when I can get some...most of what you can buy around here breaks down fairly fast.

I was reading my book yesterday arvo and and hear some excited chatter coming from the wharf, so I had a sticky through one of the ports and there's a bloke taking photos of Redwing. I put my head out the hatch and said hello and this bloke was in love with my boat.
Had a bit of a chat about it and the junk rig and he asked if he could have a look onboard, so yeah sure come aboard. He really liked what I had done. he was telling me about his boat a 28' Roberts Spray and I realised after he had left that it's the yacht on the mooring near the slip. I quite like it.

I've given up for now, the river is still spewing logs etc and it keeps raining. Not to mention we have some big repairs to our internal road to do. Maybe May if I'm lucky.

Not enough just yet Jeff, I’m hoping to finish the cellar that I’m building this week and, if there’s no word on going back to Darwin, start back on the H28 next week. The cellar is taking a bit longer than expected but it’s been a bit of fun. I’ve really just got tiling and fitting out to do to finish but the tiling is sandstone in a French pattern flagstone and I’ve not done it before so not sure how long it will take and how easy it will be to grout......fitting out includes some raised panel doors and timber paneling so that may be a bit fiddly as well and might end up being done later as weekend job.

Having an imminent job to do that you're looking forward to, is a nice place to be. Especially if you're enjoying the work that's keeping you from it! It's my permanent state.

Going to get wet for you over there Kiwis!

Agreed. The only part that I’m not looking forward to is watching the bank account dwindle quickly.

Yes, that can certainly dampen the spirit! On the other hand, there's a sort of mad attraction to having to make do with what you already have. But having the resources to buy whatever you need, is better. Or, so I remember!

A tilt bucket would be cool, but no. At least this one has a quick hitch, my old one was a bit of a bitch to change buckets, 2 pins to line up and work in or out.

Kind of. Although there seems to be quite a difference between the declared safe working load and what you can actually do with it. Last week I dropped my Porsche off at a crash repairer. Had to unload it from my car trailer, which was tricky because it had lost its rear suspension and a wheel on the left hand side. I took my old excavator (older model but same size) down, and used it to lift up the back of the Porsche to get it off the trailer.

I know what happens if you overload the boom continually though, I broke the boom off a backhoe in PNG a very long time ago after treating it cruelly for a few months. ( Shifting boulders out of an alluvial gold mine pit ... big boulders)

Very sorry to hear that John Clarke (aka Fred Dagg) died today. I liked him a lot - a very intelligent and funny man.

People like Clarke are one offs. Their minds work in different ways.

Dismantled the Sailfish mast today, the glue joint failed at the top. As it happened just a bit of mild leverage and it just fell in two. As I suspected the glue used was aquadhere, 1963 aquadhere. Basically a thin layer of compressed powder was left on the two halves that just flaked off with a pass of a sharp chisel. Wonder is it had lasted so long. There are a few old holes in the wood from old fittings I guess, I will drill them out for dowells as I go. I'll have to make a jig to keep it straight when re-glueing I guess.
