    The boards do pop up a bit on a scraping, which eases the pressure on the case. Anyway, if the case splinters on a grounding it wasn’t strong enough - those cases need to withstand a fair load on a heavy day.

    I saw an 18'er break a mast after it's daggerboard dug in.

    Did severe damage to my jolly boat doing just that. Sailing at speed in unknown water, two of us were out on trapeze at the time.
