Gary, you suggested I should go and look at a new boat up at Boyd's Bay. Was this the one ?

Just launched, built by Marcus Cranney, a friend of mine. A Ranger design IIRC.

Edited: Both boats above are nice.

I finally got some photos of the new little gaffer at Tweed. Whoever built her seriously knew what they were doing, it's immaculate.

    Question for Rick.
Rick I remember some months back you mentioned a type of foam roller recommended for polyurethane paints from the U.S.
can you run the name of them by me again please.

She is a beauty that’s for sure.
I was hoping to get some pictures on Friday but decided against it with the wind gusts.

They're made by Corona. I think they're called Ultra Smooth but I'll check that.

    Rick

I checked: Corona Ultra Smooth High Density Foam

I use Fixtech and Purbond. Both good except they don't last on the shelf for more than about 18 months.
For that reason, I'd recommend Purbond as you can get it in smaller bottles than Fixtech.

It doesn't have to last more than a few hours, I'll be using it to glue and seal the join between the deck edge and the Murbau rubbing strip/toe rail. The whole thing will be screwed on as well.

It's bloody annoying throwing away unopened tubes of Fixtech 'cos it's past it's useby.

I just swapped a tray of lettuce seedlings for 4 glasses of excellent white with a neighbour. Very civilised.

Though I imagine the container will make rude noises as it gets near empty.

I’ve got a long list of jobs to do before the op so I’m not going to get in any sailing for a month or two now. And as much as I am liking the rain it has stuffed up my schedule a bit.

Indeed. Does still make me wonder why you like the sound if it. Actually, I don't think I've ever emptied a bottle of it. I usually throw out half a bottle of crystalized and congealed gunk which remains blissfully silent apart from that final 'clunk'.

Some of you will recall that when Bruce was caught for a while at Wilson's Promontory last year, he met Neil Smith, owner of Wild Winds, a gaff ketch. Neil's the guy who brings loads of Tasmanian timber over to us if we're prepared to order enough. Aaaaaanyway, the latest Afloat magazine has a fairly lengthy article about Neil and Wild Wind, written by Bruce Stannard. I'd recommend finding a copy if you can. Afloat is available at all marine shops in NSW but I'm not sure how easy it is to find elsewhere. If you're from some remote, unknown corner of the world like Adelaide or Auckland and you've exhausted every other means, then PM me your address and I'll steal an Afloat magazine for you. Unfortunately, the Neil Smith article doesn't seem to be available on the Afloat website.

We are supposed to be doing a combined search and rescue exercise off Southport tomorrow. Should be fun the conditions don't look that wonderful.
