    Re: Antipodean Boats Connection

I'd be interested to see how a battery chainsaw handles a 3-4ft eucalypt log. My starting point for most of my fallen and falling trees.

Then you add the cost of replacement batteries, or a replacement saw. The batteries do not outlast the device.

As rick says, a generator and a cord, coupled with a much more powerful electric saw might be the go. But powerful electric motors are bloody heavy so that might not be great.

One of the local mills uses that Oregon saw, I tried it. It works well but for big deads my old 85cc McCulloch will still be here.

Third time lucky. I picked up the new addition to my fleet. Her length of 13’6” suggests she is a Tamie Norrie ,and she will need a little TLC and a good home which I can provide in my boat shed.

I bought her in Brisbane My first impression of the hull was that it was well built, the seats and the gunwhale might have been added by another builder at a later date and then there is the absence of knees . Annyhow nothing a little elbow grease can’t rectify. This is what the inside looks like.

                    Re: Antipodean Boats Connection

                    Thanks guys.
Annyhow the fun chapter of my new TN started this morning. When I first inspected her in the fading daylight I initially found a hairline crack in the keelson. Turns out she had a centreboard slot cut out, which I should have guessed looking at the half sectional floor timbers.
I am definitely planning to build or buy a sailing rig however I was more inclined to use leeboards, otherwise add onto
the keel or possibly build a dagger board trunk.
The main reason for my dislike to large swing keel trunks are the extra weight, and the drag caused by such a large slot..

Question Since the TN is based on existing fishing boat designs did any of those craft employ CB or just run deeper keels for sailing close hauled.

We'd have to come up to the GC and beat you to death if you put Lee boards in that lovely hull!

Tom don't worry too much about extra weight. The fitout on that boat looks like it was done by someone who misty builds ox carts or tug boats or something. Hellferstout.

                          Mostly. Not misty.

Lee boards it is then one way to get you to come up here for a raid and while your kicking ass don’t forget Duncan.

Seriously though what do you think of a deeper keel?

Not a bad idea if it doesn't mess up the trailer loading.

You don't want to increase the draft. Won't sail so well anyway. Just go with the centreboard. Don't fluck it up.
