Phew another mast run completed safely tucked in at the Slipway. Fingers crossed it will be erected tomorrow.

Well it seems my Austin Seven back axle is actually a Ford Prefect or Anglia.

Well done. Lucky to get away with that overhang. Reminds me of bringing my Tumlare mast home on top of my Morris Minor.

The shed walls are steel frames 2.4m x 1.2m, they bolt to a floor. Concrete slab is not my choice.

Slab might be less fire risk.

Probably not a high concern given the location. The primary concern is cost, which is most cost effective excluding labour, timber or concrete?

And right there is the power of the comma.

I probably abuse it a bit. My daughter editor certainly corrects me from time to time.

Having spent quite a few hours of labour scraping and sanding wood recently, I tend to think that adding "labour" to "timber" at all times is quite reasonable. :-)

Progress at the Slipway even if it’s sideways.

I'm planning to start ordering tiny house bits next week, but it's bewildering to see that they insist on making them like houses - that is, built out of tons of crappy materials - rather than like boats, which are lighter and stronger.

The shed on the wharf has nicer lines.

    Exactly what I thought.

Okay Chris - I know I'll regret this - why are you ordering bits for a tiny house?

So, Tom, is this the big switch to gaff rig now? And - forgive my memory lapses - do you have the new sail?

Hey Bruce, driving over Stockton Bridge this arvo, I saw a navy ship being towed, into, I think, the harbour. Is that another being added to the ship's graveyard over there?

It's actually going to be a tiny clubhouse for a very tiny sailing club (my wife and I and our friends) on our very, very tiny lake at home. It will also double as a study/guest accommodation. It's got to be movable to comply with regs - and so that it doesn't move downstream during floods.

After all, it's traumatic to have to carry an esky down to the waterfront every time you want to have a quiet glass down there.

Just bought a 300 watt solar panel for $159 with free postage. I think my original 37 watt panel was over $300...and that's 1980s money!

Used domestic panels around 190 watts are $40 or $50 on Gumtree.

Ex grid most likely and usually 36v or 48v which means you need a MPPT controller to step it down to 12v or 24v. I'm happy with the purchase.

Seems we have our next car sorted. A friend has offered us her 2009 Kia Sorrento for $5,000. Manual/automatic (never heard of that before) and well looked after. Compared to the Mazda it's a big boofy beast of a car though.

Indeed. I gather mppt is the thing anyway. But yes you bought well and solar panels seem to be getting cheaper and cheaper. For the house or the boat?

House. I think we're going to be up for new house batteries next year as well...and aren't they expensive.
