I'm slowly getting organised to get out in the Sabre as soon as the weather here is reasonable. It has been rubbish weather for ages. But I've at least got the boat somewhat watertight.

I've also just got a new secondhand car suitable for trailering the boat to the local beach. I've picked up a Subaru Forester quite inexpensively. Inexpensive means a couple of jobs need doing but it's ok to drive as it is, and is fun to drive.

Minor to moderate flooding up here, but rain clearing tomorrow.
Boating will be working on bulkheads tomorrow....I mean later today.

I remember when I sliced open my right hand. just how difficult basic stuff became. Wiping my arse was probably the weirdest.

The weirdest was hanging over the back of the aft deck beam of the Seawind 24 in a swell. There wasn't much sea clearance at the best of times. At any sort of speed there was no requirement to wipe. Very disconcerting until you got used to it.

I'm sure there are any number of witty comments on that...unfortunately, I can't think of one.

Something like bideting the following boats farewell?

Actually, that would be hard to follow. And unwise.

As a teenager I sailed on a mate's fathers 80 year old sloop often enough to use the plank that slid over the transom and complete with bollard and V notch you hung on, getting dunked at times doing the business.

All too basic for me. I really liked my enclosed head on Redwing. Redwing ll may present me with more of a challenge.

It's the same design I used on Redwing l.
Simple to draw as well. Two parallel lines and 4 litre paint tin to do the curves.

I'm going to look at oval as well. I've found a simple way to draw them.

Agreed, however bear with me a bit.
This is an oval template I've cut out for the cabin sides. I haven't put it against the cabin side yet. It looks wonky because it's not laying flat.

First 'work up' day for the new sailing season tomorrow. Grass to cut, windows to clean, tower storm shutters to repair, new flagpole to fit up, etc, etc. Quite a bit of blown sand to be moved evidently.
But it loks like a perfect sailing day……………. I'll be very surprised if there are not boats on the water by the afternoon……..

I think we discussed the shape of ports in this thread before, didn't we? I made ellipses, not ovals, and I think they look better. Drawing an ellipse is also simple: two nails, a loop of string and a pencil. Takes some trial and error to find the shape that looks good to your eye but is worth it.

Got the work done by 11.30.
Steady 15kt southerly made a cold but very pleasant start to the season.

The pencil, two nails and a loop of string creates a very nice shape.

Looks like he replaced the large windows with plywood/other sheet material and cut the ports to those sheets.

Like the elipse shape for windows Gary, rather stylish.
Bruce, got out in the Sabre yet? I was out last Sunday in ideal, if cold conditions.
