Supposed to be celebrating my 66th on Friday but still feeling a bit ordinary. I was going to get another wall up on the laundry this morning but ended up sorting old paperwork and chucking stuff out instead.
My son and a mate or off on a four day camp in the bush, due back out tomorrow. The last couple of days have been wet and windy. I lay in bed last night thinking of wet campsites and falling branches.

I pulled this out of a skip on my morning constitutional today. F/g hull, ply decks, alloy tube spars but no sails.
Awkward to carry for nearly 2 km with an umbrella at the same time - i'm sure i looked quite unusual. But hey, if you don't have a dog to walk....
It's about 1.7 metres long - im thinking that maybe its a pico-cruiser conversion candidate

    A good score !

I picked up a blower fan from a skip recently, I thought it would need electrical repair but when I plugged it in it ran beautifully! I'll use it to force atomised oil into my casting furnace. Almost brand new! About $200 worth. The yellow one.

I don't suppose anyone found a scrap bit of carbon fibre, carbon/Kevlar twill or Kevlar cloth?? I'm scrounging for some wide tape or cloth, 170mm wide min x around 1800mm long. Haven't found a supply yet.

Just a random thought but it might be worth giving Trump bikes a call. They build and repair pedal cars for the pedal Prix race series. They may be able to help.

The good news is that Colan are very nice people to deal with. The bad news is that they're an industrial supplier so you might need to buy a whole roll. However, you could contact them and ask if they know of anyone near you who buys this stuff, who might sell you an offcut.

I have scraps of kevlar but all small around 100mm and about as long.

Ring a surf board builder, the first place I bought glass cloth from was a board builder supplies and had everything, all the exotics.

Wow, a couple of nice boats on Gumtree just now. And some serious looking bargains too. (Not the same ones)

I wonder if they will get anywhere near the asking prices?

    These ones I think will

I could live in Tassie but I don't like varnish. Not on the exterior of my boat anyway.

I could live in Tassie and I love varnish, so long as the boat is small enough to sand and varnish in less than two hours. Like a SCAMP.

I'm working on it. Done the shopping, cut the firewood and filled the garden kero lamps.
And I have a nice bottle of single malt for later.

The weather is very mild for winter, could have just had a sheet in the bed last night.

I know I've touched on this subject before, so apologies if its getting boring. MIG welders. I think I need to get one. Home hobby units seem to be a couple of hundred $. I assume they are a waste of money. Next price point seems to be around $500. And then you get decent industrial sets for closer to $3000. So I'm thinking about the $500 price point. Got any experience, prejudice or wisdom to share?

That sounds like a good thread for the Building section of the forum Phil.
