We’ve got the howling gale here now (67 km/h max gust), although no rain. Just dust - so if there were rain as well, it would be raining mud.

Two metres from finishing the fibreglass on the mast and it bucketed down, thunder and lightning...the effing works!

Removing more teak from my deck between rain showers. To paraphrase Simon and Garfunkel, I'd rather be a hammer than a chisel.

We're at a friend's place where we called in to help move cars etc. Surrounded now by RFS with water bombing overhead etc. Wind's been 45 knots here but seems to have eased a bit. RFS seem happy with how it is now so we'll go home soon.

    That'll buff out.

Crazy weather this side of the ditch, the last few days. Snow, flooding, golf ball sized hail, and even a tornado! We missed the hail and tornado near Ashburton by less than fifteen minutes. One of the women at work happened to be down that way too, and copped a carload of dents and a cracked windscreen from the hail.

One of my kids is up around Cairns somewhere on a road trip with his GF. Got a msg from him. "Got hit by lightning ". That's all. Great. On further inquiry seems they got a direct hit while driving. Series of really loud bangs. White flash. Flames everywhere. But all OK. Bloody kids make you worry sometimes.

Out at the boatyard today the wind was gusting to 45 knots. It was pretty impossible trying to keep any cover over the cockpit so I couldn't get too much done. This is the setup they have:

I was glad to have the big heavy blocks holding her steady today!

Agreed, yard stands and strong winds are a bad combination.

Yep. I probably wasted close to half a day so not soooooo bad. Supposed to be windy again tomorrow but I'm hoping it'll just be 30 knots or so! It's actually usually windy out at Oyster Cove. Trying to paint Pipsqueak years ago, the wind kept blowing the paint out of the roller tray. It's okay if you want non-skid topsides, of course.

Just wondering if the market might be better somewhere like, say, Southport? The question would be whether to retrace your steps or keep going.

Gotta go float a burning boat later on tonight. Loy Krathong festival....

“Loy” means to float and a “Krathong” is a small handmade boat traditionally made from a section of banana tree trunk.

Oh.... and let off a burning lantern or two

The act of releasing the lanterns symbolizes letting go of all ills and misfortunes in the previous year. It also stuffs up the airlines somewhat - they've been told to bugger off from landing between 7pm and 1am - last year 90 flights were affected.

A couple of web shots from last year

Broad, wholesome and charitable views of men and things cannot be acquired by vegetating in one little corner of the earth all one's lifetime" Mark Twain... so... Carpe the living sh!t out of the Diem
