On an overnight race a few years ago , one of the crew disappeared into the head and just didn't come out. We were all busy in quite a breeze , when someone says 'where's Billy?'. Billy bhoy was known as Billy backstay from his favourite position on the boat, and also Billy boomfunk MC after the break dancing episode on the foredeck... an involuntary manouvre and certainly a sight to behold.
Anyyyyway....Panic stations for all of 2 minutes until he was located ( and we all remembered where we'd last seen him, heading forward and down below)
Turned out he was stuck in there trying to work out how to make the lavac go.
Ever since then we've made rude jokes about him being cast ,vacuumed onto the head. Which is what I was getting at , Rick. You just had to be in my brain to know it.

Now there is a frightening image.

The funniest part of the whole story to me was the look on his face as explained he'd been searching the head for buttons and he'd pushed everything he could find to make it work.
In the bulkhead was a 38 mm bung where the old exit hose had been removed when they'd changed to Lavac, he'd pushed that right through....

Just spent a few days with my son and family. My daughter in law is a dental assistant, yesterday she booked me in for a clean and some fillings. Indian dentist with a very steady hand and didn’t use a local. A couple of sensitive moments but wow what a nice gift.

I just cancelled tomorrow's appointment with a dental hygienist. I hate them. Call me a sook. But I do have a digger job to do. That's my excuse.

Dividends of setting a new mooring in Boyd’s Bay , not worrying about Wee Barkie while we have been relaxing in Bali.

My previous last visit to a dentist was back around 2006...my excuse was I need the money to finish the boat.

My last visit was when I bit down hard on a peanut that turned out to be a peanut shaped rock. One split tooth, one extraction.

I've been suffering with sinus pain for months. Never had it before.
Turns out its a cracked tooth. Doesn't even show in an x-ray.

South Australian cemetery archaeology has revealed that one of the main causes of death for the poor migrants imported from Britain under the Wakefield system was dental infections that lead to brain inflammations then death. Bad teeth can kill.

Stuff that. If I have anything more serious than a filling they can just rip the bastard out and be done with it. So many more useful things that money could be spent on: sails; stores, the hideous fee for aus ship rego, etc...

Although missing teeth is not much fun after a while. I have 4 implants now. Could have had new sails I guess.

A friend had a very high paying job for a few years and shouted himself a mouth full of implants, his teeth were crap, like a lot of New Zealand pakeha. There appear to be a few trace elements missing in NZ soils but Maori, who seem to eat more seafood, have good teeth.

Isn't that the boat I proposed in my GBC business case? She looks so unloved now.

I'm guessing, wildly, that Adrian probably won't take this one on. His is a Wollacott, isn't it? Where is Adrian, anyway?

I'm really looking forward to getting back to the boat soon. I've just spent a few weeks lining ceilings and walls, drilling into cement, stuffing horrible insulation into overhead spaces etc. Soon .....
