The correct answers were either 1. How TF would I know. 2. Cappuccino or 3. Nescafe, I suppose.

Hmmm, instant here tonight……………….actually beer. It's quite warm, humid, overcast and dead still all day. Bay like a mirror. About 17 spots of rain in two bursts………………….. Half filled the woodshed for winter…………….

As for boating. I find that the bloke whose Cat I'm crewing on I knew way back, way way back in trade union and young labour days. we even co-sponsored a policy motion that got up. Neither of us remembered, or recognised each other but we began to find common acquaintances. Just as well the Cat has red sails……………….

Has anyone been stung by a bull ant ? Gawd they hurt! I was weeding in my little regen project yesterday when 2 of the little horrors got down my shirt.

They feel a red hot needle .... not that I've ever felt a red hot needle, but it's what I'd imagine it would feel like .

They're not bull ants! You'll know it if you get hit by a real bull ant! You have to be careful not to trip over the ones we have here.

Trip over them? Down here we have to CLIMB over them. I saw a bus crash into one of them once. Got the mongrel angry and it opened up the side like a sardine can. Stroppy when they get riled.

Why would you want to climb over them? Once they've tripped us over with their feet here, we get the hell out of there! Anyway, who carries climbing gear around in the bush?

112 knots at manukau heads last night, about 20 miles from us. It was feral. 1910 house shaking on its foundations and we're relatively sheltered where we are. power out all over Auckland trees down , the whole schmeer.

Wow! 100 knots is very destructive! I would not like to be at sea in that!

Lots of damage around the city but less than I'd expect in some ways. Yes , I wouldn't want to be anchored out somewhere in that , let alone be at sea. It was solid 80 knot sustained for long periods, and then those ridiculous gusts. Our old house is 1910 and I'm sure it has original glass in its big windows. I was watching that flexing or wobbling and just wondering......
But no issues for us personally , although I haven't been to the boat.

Hell's bells. I'm glad you, yours and the house are ok. Hoping now that the boat is OK too. Please post news of her.

That's ferocious! Hot and windy here today, probably the worst bushfire weather we've had this summer. Very late in the season, should be cool and rainy by now.

We seem to have got through it ok. Major dust storm cross Adelaide yesterday and a big compost/mulch business has a fire going. But no big bushfires. Checking the boat now. All good and the bilge remains dry even after our little sunset cruise the other evening. Thanks again Adrian for your help with the engine alignment and stuffing box.

That heat hasn't hit us Phil, it may go to the north. Looked like a big storm this morning but just the odd drop reached the ground. Sunny, humid and about 4-5kts NW at about 2pm. Forecast strong northerlies? No show.

I'll finally get back to the Cadet in the shed today. Got to build an OS frame on parts of her before I take off the deck and put some new frames inside.

Low 20s here with the occasional shower. Quite pleasant.

Small things can be made very strong, almost indestructible, but even better is just not to sail in those conditions.

Spent the morning at Chillingham as part of a rent a crowd for a Landline segment on the organic fruit and vege stall there. Lunch time I was on board Mt Warning tours boat cruising part of the Tweed and Rous Rivers. Sometimes when you wake up in the morning you find your day going places you hadn't planned.

The 7'6 Nutshell has a good reputation. Good plans and instructions. Looks great. Only problem we had is the imperial measurements on the plans. Does your head in.

I used to feel like that about imperial, but having spent the last five years staring at imperial plans it now seems intuitive... of course being old enough to have copped a bit of the imperial system in childhood may also help.
