    I used staples.
My take is that if you poke someone with a sharp stick they'll get annoyed, if you smile and shake their hand they will be your friends.

You could use staples, but they'd rust. I gather double sided tape of the right sort is plenty strong and almost makes the stitching redundant.

I took them out as I worked my way along the seam.

Back from a hectic day of council work to find my order of marine grade UV treated thread has arrived, including complimentary thread clippers.

Today's lesson: 3000 metres is a lot of thread.

I used double sided tape got from a sailmaker. It worked great but the needle needed to be sprayed with wd40 or some such lubricant to keep it from getting gummed up all the time.

Hey Bruce I will be interested to hear how that spool works .From memory I seem to recall Nellie having problems using heavier thread with the bobbin on her industrial Brother, when she was sewing WB dodger and covers .

I'm going to do some test pieces with it soon. I'll let you know how it goes.

If it wobbles around dangerously a tight fitting length of tubing pressed over the little bobbin rod might fix things . An old car aerial is a really good source of stainless tube .The collapsible ones give a selection of diameters.

My Singer got an extension from a long 1/4'' Whitworth bolt with the hex head cut off.

Ahhh, mystery solved! I always thought it was disaffected teenagers that go around busting car aerials. It's actually budding canvas workers setting up their gear. Makes me feel better.
