No, a joiner friend made the stairs and the rails and together we did the installation. I turned about half of the balusters and then got a professional woodturning friend to do the rest as it was driving me insane. David helped me build the balustrade too. I still have another to go, which I'll do soon, but it's a lot shorter than the full staircase length so I'll do that one alone.

The skirting, which you can't really see, is all turpentine. The joiner friend has a spindle moulder so we machined all the turpentine with that. It's like rock, tough on blades, but dresses up beautifully - almost as if it's been glazed sometimes.

I'll see if I can find a picture of the skirting.

I don't really have a picture of the skirting. You can see it a bit, against the wall, in this picture but it's not very clear. Gives a better idea of the shape of the staircase though. But the thing I was really alluding to is that there's a role outside boatbuilding for a shed full of clamps. At present, i think I have about 10 clamps on the boat, 30 or 40 or more in the shed and about 30 in the house in town, and I still run out of clamps!

The bigger Irwin/Qick Grip clamps or whatever it is they're called, are really good. I'm finding they're my go-to clamps these days, along with medium-small F clamps. The Irwin clamps in this photo though are only small ones along with some barely useful ones from Aldi (Aldi F clamps, OTOH, are terrific).

    Very impressive.

    Thanks all!

Sorry Tom, no. The upstairs bedroom and bathroom are pretty much complete, the closing in of the balcony too, and the front room downstairs is virtually complete. I'm currently working on the middle room and I still have the laundry and kitchen to go. I'll post some pictures of it when it's done.

Tomorrow I'm working on the boat!!!!! The plan is to take it out of the water in September for the engine installation so I'm spending a few days this month doing more prep work. I think i now have all the materials and equipment I'll need so i just want the boat to be as ready as possible so that I don't waste any out-of-the-water time. Otherwise, it's all about house stuff.

I think so too. The most enjoyable way is to watch and listen to the spotted gum splinter gathering procedure.

Apologies I was in the wrong house, same here mostly about house and yard stuff. I will be ripping into the ensuite and the bathroom shortly. Tomorrow I will drop 4 of the last big palm trees in preparation for having a shade sail installed adjacent to the triple car garage .

It's the house in Newcastle. I can post some pictures of the extension where the kitchen will go - I'll see what I can find.

OK, that explains things a lot. I was trying to work out how that all fitted on the other place .
