    Re: Antipodean Boats Connection

Hahaha.... I'm pretty sure I will just cut them off flush. They will bed on the outside just right. Which is why I was wondering what I could make from all that bronze. All sorts of shippy stuff and it would be fun to learn.
Is gunmetal bronze structural? I'm thinking mast hoops, bob stay conecter thing, the ring on the end of the bowsprit... the list goes on. Is it suitable material though? That I don't know.

LG2 ( gunmetal) is easy to cast, it doesn't shrink much as it cools to solid. It's not very strong and is a bit malleable. For high strength aluminium bronze would be a better choice, or manganese bronze. Very stong but uncooperative, high shrinkage , LG2 is available from your local scrap metal dealer, used in municipal water valves, good quality. Fire control equipment. About $12 kg new from a friendly non ferrous foundry.

What does "Not very strong" mean? My boat has a few bits and bobs made of aluminium-how would gunmetal compare with that?

If she had a bowsprit the stay underneath it would attach to the bobs.

Pixie is currently using Bob's stay. He hasn't yet asked for it back, which is generous of him.

If you had 2 of them once you could buy a pie.

You needed three for an aluminium pie.

Despite my best efforts this is as close as I managed to get launching the Tammie this weekend. The old mirror rig despite being small actually looks not bad. However I have decided to go with the lug rig instead due to it’s simplicity.

Does anyone have a spare one For Sale or know someone who has It needs to be around 80 sq ft.
