What's the opposite approach? Propeller in the air and engine submerged??

I tried that with my outboard, it doesn't work.

That's just silly! Imagine how dizzy you'd get!

No, I meant using an outboard as a brushcutter. I'm sure it's been done, albeit not on purpose.

We had Orcas take out a whale calf just off Ballina today, right in front of a whale watcher boat. Would love to see them...Not eating a whale calf though. I know they have to eat.

Years ago there was a weed invasion in Albert Park Lake that halted all boating activity. They used a weed mower that was a bunch of modified outboards, and then a floating dredge to mop the floating cuttins up. Invented by a bloke called Hooper, dad of the sailor and the sailmaker.

    Oooookay ...
Been building a box/tray for the new fuel tank. Just have to put finish coat on that and then I can fit it. Also removed the old windlass and am just sorting out a spot for the new one. Once the new windlass is on then I'll continue with painting the deck, cabin sides etc. New engine is great. Never thought I could fall in love with an engine but I'm close. Oh, also removing the exhaust elbow to replace with riser in SS.

    How's that?

I put some 20mm pads (hardwood with fiberglass sheath each side) under my engine mounts.
It was sitting high on the riser bolts, the shipwright recommended i do it to reduce vibration and thus less stress on my bearings.
Cut down vibrations remarkably and quietened the engine no end.

It is great to have a motor that simply starts when you turn the key. Makes me grin every time!!

Earned some money in the morning and worked in the shed in the afternoon. I'm about to start was non boat project. A set of shelves for the tv and sound system plus storage for cds and dvds. Building them from recycled hoop pine trestle tables.

    https://www.sail-world.com/news/2230...-coast--1-dead

"My information is that the deceased sailor is one of our leading club members, tornado sailor and chairman of BOPSAT, Stuart Pedersen. "Fellow club member Bruce Goodwin, Stuart's wife Pamela and Pamela's brother-in-law Steve are the survivors.
"Bruce and Steve have been released from hospital but unfortunately, Pamela is still in intensive care."
Stuart was well known in the Tauranga community, SunLive reports
As well as being a sailor and a savvy investor, Stuart was also an ACT Party candidate.
He worked in the economics and investment fields, and was a private investor and an active volunteer in the community through Rotary and as Chairman of the Bay of Plenty Sailing Academy Trust, the statement concluded

No, one of those life gets in the way months.
Have sold the Halvo - a confluence of cost vs use arguments and a reasonable offer made me decide to let it go.
Now in the habit of regular perusal of Boatsales, Gumtree, YachtHub etc and going thru regular will I/won't I moments.
Otherwise i have a part-built Whitehall skiff that i should finish and take rowing.
In other news, my partner in life told me the other night that she had figured I'd grow out of this 'boat thing' over time. She now knows she is not always right.

At least Sail world have amended their earlier ludicrous report connecting this sinking with the wreck of a yacht in a famous and pivotal yachting incident in 1983 ,with a decent bit of reporting.

    You’re not wrong there.
We have watched several medical evacuations of cruise ships one where the chopper actually landed on the foredeck while cruising of the Queensland coast. Just can’t imagine it could get any more difficult than that landing on the bow of a moving vessel adjacent to the bridge superstructure.

Below is a stretcher evacuation where a chopper crew was winched down and the patient then retrieved.

Fit the new tiller today, it's a couple of mm under size in width so it's going to need either a thin layer added to the stock or some packing to stiffen the fit. I'll post a photo tomorrow of how it looks.

Practicing man overboard drill with a couple of fenders tied together and a shark showed up. Only a young fella about 4 foot, the guess was he was in training as well.
I have a photo but it's just not attaching.

Later on we towed a 5 metre fishing boat with outboard trouble. I had the pleasure of being on the helm the whole way in back over the bar and to the boat ramp. Something I hadn't done before.

One of the things I like about using Facebook is when it brings up photos I posted ages ago. This is a favourite which popped up today, from 4 years ago.

I get the odd nice surprise as well. That looks like a sweet anchorage Phil.
