We've got to get you carrying a camera and posting pictures Rick! Maybe when I come down next, which could be early/mid October.
BTW, any Dragons in the SASC fleet?

Hey guys just a quick one to say I'm alive. 11 days on life support apparently and now in a ward in cairns base hospital but making huge progress. Hoping to work out how to get home to Adelaide to complete my recovery which will probly take a few months and then work out whether we go back to png or not. Long story short turned out to be something which looks a lot like pneumonia but is not and if you treat it like pneumonia that will kill you dead quick time. So feeling pretty happy to be alive right now.
phil
Good news Phil, you sound as though you've really been taken the rounds...hope they have good tropical med guys up there..I guess they do. Get well soon. Sounds as though it might be better for you to stay away from PNG for a while.
Bloody hell Phil!!! 11 days on life support can't have been much fun for your family!!! I guess you'd have been oblivious to it at the time but how are you feeling now??? Weak as piss I'm assuming.....
Take it easy mate, I hope the company are doing the right thing by you!!

Yeah well I have an Olympus p&s Mu plus a Pentax K20D but haven't figured out a free account and how to post. As for the SASC there are a few and discussions are underway for a sub series under the metre boat series.
The 44 year model Harl is under a mate's house, he bought it restored from Redfern MC Spares in 68 and retired it in 81. It's in bobber configuration (3.00 x 21inch front with mousetrap clutch assist and foot shift) but original bits to take it back.
PM me mate with your own addie and I can post a pic of her "in the day" as OCT should see my catchment project almost complete.

Phil, A close call eh? Very glad to see you are still alive as from pers exp an IC unit is no cakewalk.
Jayzuz Phil! Glad you're out of the woods - touch wood! You have your mobile with you? Up for a chin wag?
Purri, I'll PM when I've finished our late Winter Springesque clean!

Strewth Phil! I thought you were lying on a beach somewhere getting over malaria ! Well I'm glad you're on the make at least, tell us more about what got you later when you've got the energy . Congratulations on being alive !
It might be enough to reduce PNG's tourist income a little.

Glad you"re still with us Phil - sorry you've had all that to deal with! Get really well soon!
Rick
Rick, just to continue the trip north conversation. Let us know when you think you'll be up around these parts, and perhaps we can take you up to Poona for a day or two..that would be terrific. In any event, let's organise an EBS here at my place if that suits everyone. What are your plans?
Phil, seems like you caught one of the nasty ones, but it's great to hear you are on
the mend. Take it easy though and maybe PNG is not for you.
Skiing today, turned out fine and sunny and all went well till one of my companions got what looked like a nasty bout of gastro. OK one minute, throwing up the next. As I said no ski patrol there but his partner and I worked him back the 5k we'd climbed slowly. In the car he seemed to be coming good but his partner was feeling queasy. Drove them home, problem was then my car was 60k away. A long distance shuttle ensued, and finally I'm home. My dodgy hip did not like carrying someone down a hill on skis and I'm rather stuffed actually. Oh well, as I said to Andy "We've been doing this for over 40 years and this is the first time anything has gone wrong". Not a bad average really.
Mmm ,I'm glad that one turned out OK Jeff.
Perfect is the enemy of good.
It's amazing how long some injuries last. I wrenched my right hip 40 odd years ago, I caught my foot under a root while sliding around a corner on a trail bike ( karma ...I can hear you Jeff !) .It hurt then and every now and then reminds me of that day . It was doing it last week during my little run.
I'll take a few days to let it forget .
Perfect is the enemy of good.
Hey guys feeling great considering. Being on life support for a couple of weeks does nothing for your fitness levels I can tell you. Lost 10 kg which is not all bad. Walked a couple of km yesterday and up and down 6 flights of stairs in the hospital. I want to get out too many sick people here. Hopefully meet with the medical team today to discuss that but there's a reason why the patient is called a patient. Just wait. The staff here are bloody amazing.
Well. we're coming up on the weekend of 1 September. We have a few bits of furniture and some building materials to pick up around Brisbane and we're picking up that sailboard in Buderim too. I'm having a few days off work but I don't know what time Ms T will have off work yet. But I think we could safely say that we'll be around Brisbane on the weekend! How far is Poona from Buderim? Thanks for the invitation John, greatly appreciated!
Are you around that weekend Greg?
Rick
I am actually, home Thursday night and leaving again Sunday arvo so probably wouldn't be popular if I try to get away for an EBS, but any chance of you dropping in for a cupa' on your way through? We're on the north side of the GC on the way to Brisbane, about 10 minutes off the motorway.

Get well soon Phil. From bitter experience those worst bit was the constant light and alarms going off when you rolled over in the cot.
That sounds pretty bad! But I have two pet hospital hates. 1. Getting woken up every hour or two to see if I'm conscious (yep, I know it's hard to tell anyway, so why do they bother?) 2. Ear specialists, various other docs and (some) nurses who don't seem to understand that when you're practically deaf in one ear and the other (better) one is stuffed full of bandages and goop, it's a bit hard to decipher their mumbling.
Not that I'm an intolerant grump or anything like that.
Hope you get to enjoy your recovery time Phil - a trip to the Channel in a few weeks?
Rick
The EBS sounds like a wonderful excuse to apply for a leave pass .
Perfect is the enemy of good.
Rick #2. Yeah the dreaded Glasgow neuro obs. I did 3 months in a neuro ward aka the vegie patch so I became "conditioned". Definitely character building.
Phil the diet/ calorific intake is set for passive/ near vegetative patients so weight loss is guaranteed.
Hope it's ok to keep organising this here. That weekend is good, and the tides are high during the daylight hours which is also good for a possible sail. Rick, would you both like to bunk down here? You'd be most welcome. Buderim is an hour north of here, and Greg an hour south.
Poona is another 2 hours north of Buderim so that sounds like a different trip at another time to me. It's best to go up to Poona one evening, go for a sail the next day and come home that evening. That's a full twenty four hours to do the most miminmum stay and get in a sail, or a drink or anything really. Probably better another time, unless of course you can get another day or two off.
But if we had an EBS here, and you went up to Buderim, and you collected the other stuff, and left home early enough to see Greg on the way back down, that's a pretty full weekend already.
So if something like that happened, how are Peter, Gary, Dunc, and Greg if he could (and anyone else interested of course) all placed for that weekend?
A bit of good news. I've been discharged from hospital and fly home Tuesday. Pretty dammed happy.

Great news Phil, and a relief to all concerned I'll bet.
+1 Phil! Just left a message on your mobile.
Gary, I may be okay to take you up in the Suzuki, particularly if we share driving with Sibbo. Think 3 Men in a Sh*tbox!
I should be clear that weekend and I need a good moochy weekend. Not sure what SWIMPAL's plan are at this stage.

Home will never have felt so good Phil, hope it brings a full recovery.
I've just checked the weather for Wednesday , it looks a likely day to take HS out of the water.
Or then again , I could leave it in till Friday , 42knot winds , 11metre seas http://www.seabreeze.com.au/graphs/vic_west.asp .
Rob J.
So I think we're having an EBS on the Sunday then??? Let me know what you all think suits best.![]()
That's very kind of you John! We'll certainly be there for the EBS, and it'll be great if somehow we can fit a sail in but we won't stay if you don't mind - really looking forward to meeting your partner and seeing your place though! We're yet to work out exactly which days we'll be doing what but we'll work around what suits you lot! I'm taking a week off work but I don't know what time T will take yet.
Good news indeed Phil! Enjoy!
Rick
Let's see if we can have it on the Saturday then. You're not allowed no to be there!!![]()
Saturday sounds good to me!
Rick
Sounds great John!
Rick
Thanks dunc although I'm not even sure what my mobile is. I have a temp one at the moment. Anyway11 days witha rubber hose down my throat means I'm not up to a lot of voice work at the moment. Apparently too I gave the medical team a pretty hard time when they were trying to get the tube in. Took 3 goes the final one pretty urgent under GA before they got it done. But the voice box will come back soon enough. Felicity says she quite likes me quiet.
Now here's a good story.

Got home OK. Shyte its cold here. Seems like while I was on life support my dad entered Balia in the Tas wooden boat festival and she's been accepted, so I'll be there. (The Youngs don't understand pessimism in any way shape or form) All and any WBF members will of course be welcome aboard and maybe we can get a crew together for the Parade of Sail. I'll have to get down to Tas and do a bit of work between now and then (deferred maintenance). Living in PNG with a boat in Tas has its challenges. Nothing major to be done, but certainly a few bits and pieces to attend to. Great to be alive.
