Who'd a thought that a soldering geek would sell recycled timber as well. great find![]()
You can see it in action here. The villagers and the manual workers are lean and fit. When people move "up" into supervisory and management roles, or become succesful business men, or start raking in land rent and royalties, they keep eating a heavy diet, become obese and die young of heart failure or diabetes.
Natural, or rather personal selection at work Phil?
Suicide by dining.
Lovely day for a drive, Bermagui tonight, right opposite the fleet of game boats but amongst the plastic a couple of woodies. A big wooden trawler came in on dusk and I spoke to a bloke on what looked like an ex shark boat. Flooded gum with a Gardner , live aboard too. Built in Ballina. I hope to get a pic or two tomorrow before leaving. It'll be a long day if we try for home and the weather looks like going downhill.

The 70s? I don't think there was a wooden surfboard anywhere near the surf anywhere in the 70s!

Good one Greg! I like the lugger but ...........

^ Extreme commitment required! Not for those of faint heart nor shallow wallet. Probably iron fastened though that may be an advantage.

Looking at that pearl lugger, I wondered which is cheaper/less time: fixing that one or building a 35' boat from scratch? Lucky I chose the latter..
The Gaff rig would look huge and scary on that thing. I'd turn it into a schooner & slap junk sails on it.
She looks bigger than 52' doesn't she? Scary really, my Balia is 50'. But not 100 years old and not iron fastened. Doesn't look anywhere near as scary. Junk rig? That would be sacrilege.
I have 4 temporary moulds up, levelled and squared, the 2 x 5m x 120 x 15 mm keel laminations ripped out of an old bit of demo yard oregon , planed 2 sides and ready to glue up.The epoxy has arrived .
A good day.
Perfect is the enemy of good.
Time for some photos Mr S!
Rick
I'll take a few over the weekend, it's actually possible to see a boatish shape !

Home, long day but I enjoyed the drive. I like distance driving. Stopped for lunch at a little creek that runs into the sea, a very rough track I speculated about 2 years ago. Nice, we'll be back there.
That lugger is a big beast, you'd need a crew and she wouldn't be easy. But I hope someone takes her on. That flooded gum live aboard at Bermagui was out fishing this morning so no pic. He's a retired widower evidently pleasing himself.
The lugger is "no longer available".... I hope someone rich and enthusiastic bought her. A magnificent lump for man, woman and 3 strong teenagers .

Great photo though. Went to a funeral for one of our staff last night. The preacher had a bit about whether God was a white man or a black man. No question about it though, definetely a man apparently.
Pindimar NSW, by Kieren HaddowWas that taken at Denmark in West Oz?
Nice picture Patrick! BTW, all those shots of your restoration of Rogue seem to have disappeared. I went back to my "Question for the Kiwis" thread and I see only little blue boxes with question marks?
Should send that shot to the preacher Phil: Set him straight about what God is.

Lots of fun here today. We brought this thing up from Sydney yesterday and got it off the trailer this morning - in our next door neighbour's driveway. It weighs 1.3 tonnes.
We took a panel out of the fence and rolled it on planks and rollers to the shed. By then we had a few helpers!
Next we rolled it into the shed.
Now all I have to do is work out what to do with the bloody thing!
Rick
That's an impressive lump Rick and it looks in very good condition ! In our local library there is a Fine Woodworking DVD with a section in it on how to use an overhead router, unfortunately I can't remember which one ! Perhaps your library has a collection?

Nice bit o' kit. Now to set it up on a good thick slab with aligned chemset bolts, align the pulleys and set the guides to a poofteenth of SFA. (apols to David Lockwood)

Very impressive! All those levers and wheels. Last thing I saw like that was in The Wizard of Aus................ er.Oz.![]()
Very impressive I think it needs a thread of it's own, installation test run and instruction for the viewers. I also think I need one but don't know why.![]()
Are you trying to compensate for something there Rick? That's quite a machine!!!

What does it not do Rick?
Cause it looks like it's meant to do a lot of things.
Did the book arrive okay?

He's just trying to fire up our sense of competition.I should have kept the Milling machine, twice as big and just as green.

That is a very fine, large, green.. machine.
I'd like one in my "workshop" too. Dont know what it does, but I'd still want one.
A couple of pages Rick might find useful,http://www.wadkin.com/wadkin-library.../-/7/-/Routers
and this forum has proven very helpful to me setting up my Wadkin tablesaw.http://www.woodworkuk.co.uk/forum/viewtopic.php?t=977
