Bruce , if it happens , it would be from Hobart , to Portland.
And we could take in as much of the Tasmanian coast , and islands , as possible on the way.

I hope it does happen, for both of you!
Peter, they race model catamarans in the Motu areas of PNG, around Port Moresby and the coast to the eastern tip and to the west. They're not outriggers; rather they're double ended catamarans just like the full size ones they race. They're very fast too.
Rick
These are the ones they race up in Kiribati...beautiful things, and go so fast they leave the water sometimes

Greg, are you keeping up mate? Got you a berth on an H28 on the swan.

OK, the rest is off-topic
This is a long shot, but I'm looking for financial advice (no, I don't want to buy a "financial product") re superannuation, and the tax implications of a termination payment. Anyone have/is a good Aussie accountant?
Bruce, who will save some money as a result of this advice and put it towards a BOAT

It seems to me there are two types that people find valuable. There are ones like ours who just give you straight advice and service and don't have you chasing after every lurk in the book. Then there are the ones who set you off on a life journey of how to claim chewing gum as a stress relief device etc. I tend to trust the former type but I do know people who seem to be very happy with the latter. When it comes to critical areas like what to do with retirement funds, when to sell property etc., having a fairly conservative accountant to help you along is pretty useful I think. I've PM-ed our accountant's name.
Rick
Bruce, I was made redundant from a job I had mixed feelings about last year. Some things I achieved were terrific, but the rest was a hard slog emotionally and, in some respects, ethically, and so on. I'm glad I worked there when I did and got the opportunities that came my way, but glad I'm not there any more.
The bottom line is that any redundancy payment (number of weeks for number of years, payment in lieu of notice, annual leave and everything else is pretty much tax free aside from normal PAYG stuff on annual leave. In your return don't make the mistake I did of confusing a tax free employer lump sum payment with a reportable fringe benefit which is in the same row, albeit different and unrelated column on the PAYG group certificate.
I stopped using accountants for PAYG stuff as all your really have to do is fill in the canine testicular bits of the return, add up all your deductions (what you can claim is pretty well documented) and sign on the dotted line. It certainly ain't rocket surgery!

Had a top day on Moreton Bay, we sailed/motored down to Horseshoe Bay for lunch. Wind was supposed to be 10-15 knots and if it was then it wasn't where we were. At one point we had the main, the staysail and the MPS up and the best we did was 4.5 knots. We motored all the way back and I'm not sure but I think I saw two whales in the Bay. I got to practice my pilotage anyway so I was happy.
I looks like I may have company if I sail up for the Faser Island EBS next year. MY friends reckon they might sail their Hans Christian 32 up as well.

Sea Stallion would be a serious mother ship.Redwing will only have an esky, a good one but still an esky. Our plan is for me to meet to sail up to Moreton via the Southport Seaway and meet them then both boats to head on up. Hopefully I'll be able to keep up, their hull speed is a bit more than mine.

Bruce, we have a good accountant in Adelaide-Scot Edwards at Freer Parker. They do accounting and financial planning etc

Well it's been pouring again down here, storms and squalls and the creek well up. Damn cold too. But the forecast is for clearing by the time we leave on saturday. I really don't fancy the drive in weather like we've been having. And then of course we might not be able to get through anyway. We'll see. But one route or another we are still coming!
We're all looking forward to seeing you Jeff, take care ! You'll like the weather up this way , cool nights and clear blue days.![]()
Perfect is the enemy of good.
Let us know when you'll be around here Jeff. I'll be around all this week writing and next week not writing (I hope!!). It's freezing here ... although that might be because we've only got single sheets of plywood with ratholes between us and the great outdoors. But bring a jumper anyway!
Rick
That ought to work. We're going to clad the house one day .... At this stage I think we'll have some of the old timber cladding in some sections, corrugated iron in others, mini orb in others, and copper sheet too. Unfortunately copper sheet costs a bomb so we won't have much of it We're going to use a lot of plywood inside though - probably Fijian cedar (whatever that is) as it's cheap from Mr Plywood, and some kauri, as it's also cheap from Mr P. I want to use some of the old floorboards for some internal lining too but for the time being we still need them to walk on. I predict that the final result will look like a cross between Grand Designs and HOS.
Rick
it's not exactly warm here either! Rain predicted for next weekend which means I have to organise plenty of cover for my birthday party on Saturday. Okay I'm back to normal now that my dam is full...bloody rain!
Ballina has had a bit over 1,000mm in the last 6 months, their annual is 1,200mm.
Looking forward to seeing you Jeff and Anne.

That's good Jeff! I'll have to go for a dive and scrape all the slime and barnacles off Pipsqueak. The antifoul's working pretty well (but doesn't keep the slime off), but the prop's hopeless! The barnacles (or oysters or whatever) build up enough to disable the motor within a few months. I think next time I'll have to take out another mortgage and get some of that propspeed stuff - although really I'd like to get rid of the engine altogether and replace it with an outboard. T won't let me yet but I'm working on it!
Rick
I'm hoping that GD is the stronger strain .....

An acquaintance north of Brissy reckons that it hasn't really stopped all year. Hope there's no floods up the coast, and I reckon I'll lay in an extra set of wiper blades.![]()
Just lanolin?
Rick

Yep. There's a mob in West Oz selling a lanolin based antifoul that is supposed to work quite well.

Here's a few comments on it.

Rick , I used a product on HS called Propshield , which is lanolin based.
Initially , it was fantastic , but the last couple of times I motored in HS it seemed that something is sticking to one blade , and causing a vibration.
I'll be able to tell for sure , when I bring HS out.
Before that I was using antifoul , and that seemed to work ok.
Maybe , being a diver in warmer waters , you could do better than I , (there is no way I'm diving in Portland now).
When I go out to her , the prop and the shaft area are just a ball of growths , and most seems to shed quickly with motoring.
But not all , it seems.
I'll know more when she comes out of the water.
Rob J.
It'd be like smearing yoghurt on new flower pots to promote moss growth wouldn't it Rob? Just more tucker for the algae and barnacles.
Its not easy to put on Jeff , it has to be heated , and then applied , at least at the time I put it on , at Garry's.
I put it on good and thick , but I reckon after the growths have been torn off a dozen times or 2 , lots of the prop is exposed.
There certainly seemed to be plenty of growth on the prop , and the prop shaft area.
When I take HS out of the water , I'll take some photos of the prop.
Rob J.
For some reason it's been worse this year than other years. It could be that I haven't run the engine often enough and, as above, once you've scraped growth off, it easily grows back. Anyway, I'll scrape it off again this week.
Peter's probably right about the sheep - I've never seen any with barnacles, although I've seen a few with dags around the nether regions.

Friends sent me a photo of me on the wheel on Saturday. I've got my wet weather jacket on with the hood up, not because it was wet but because it was a bit chilly out there. I look like a guardsman on parade.![]()

Looks like a good looking boat too Rob, but it's not looks that matter. Maybe at 70 he'd been sailing about so long that he thought he was OK. (Says me at 69)
Gary, you could at least have had someone throw buckets of water at you for 'atmospherics'.![]()
Jeff, I hope you've got all the frequencies along your drive route for ABC Classic FM, SIPCA being on and all!
