As do I but you were not in mind when I made it. The reference was to those who seem to pop out strings of dinghies, kayaks etc. And it's not a criticism either - like French knitting, the value seems to be in the doing, and I think that makes both activities very worthy. There is a resemblance.

Ouch Johnno, I had to drive myself about 70 miles over corrugated roads in the Kimberlies with an abcessed tooth in an old Landy so I have some idea of your predicament. But at least I had something to do.
Whisky it is, but though I never smoked much, an old bushie said that cigarette smoke in the mouth would dull the pain, and it did. Poor old dentist got the worst of it though, I stank.

We had 110mm altogether but it's not quite over, it's still heavy overcast and mud.Did I mention mud ! We live on a ridge top and it's muddy .

It might be worth digging down the side to let a bit of air down there... half formed ideas of vacuum bagging and the effective seal of lots of mud ......

Pretty much what happened with the last job here on the GC Phil, a few benefits but soul destroying on the whole. Although I must admit that I'm getting rather desperate now, everything that I'm up for at the moment would be valuable career wise and worth the effort. Perth would be the hardest to manage because it is full time Perth based, very similar to the Darwin job that I had a couple of years ago, but much harder to get home for the weekend every few weeks. It's only a six to 7 month contract and a door back into that defence contracting work but the way Swanny is decimating budgets at the moment I suspect that it may end up the same as Darwin a few years ago, ie stop all contracting works, let everything go to crap again and have to play catchup a few years down the track.

I've managed to lift it a few inches and break all the cement away from the mold. I'll put up a photo or two. Very muddy and now where near as much fun as pouring it.

Evidently because ships called all the time it was not uncommon for a man or men to stay o the island if they wanted to change employment, or had become unwelcome on the ship they were on. Pirating was not at all as hollywood portrays of course, but it was democratic. a company of 'pirates' elected their own captain, and could expel a person by the same method. Somewhere I have an autobiography of Dampier and it is clearly explained in the book.

On another note, our dates up north are 13th to the 20th July at Kingscliff and a few days either side p[robably. An EBS would be good and I want to look at Looe and Redwing and any available others of course.

Had a beautiful afternoon on the bay today. Out on the last of a big falling tide, traced the course of the river in it's channel, the bars and banks are thick with sea grass an looking very healthy, The whole trip, 3.5 hours, was in about 30-75 cms of water till the tide turned and then we basically drifted letting it bring us back. Hundreds of birds feeding on the submerging banks, whiting jumping everywhere in about 30cms water. Flotillas of Swans and Pelicans overherad. Water like a millpond, fantastic.

Great stuff Bruce I can smell the salt and reminds me of my time tackling the Coffs bar even though the seas were slight in the dark with trawlers coming and going it was a nervous skipper as you say we southerners are not accustomed to crossing bars. Looking forward to the next episode.

I have an acquaintance who was always very dismissive of Aboriginal claims regarding their past treatment and present rights. Old grazier stock. On a recent visit to Sydney he was taken to what he called an 'Aboriginal Museum' and it shocked him, he said he felt sick and had to leave. Now he's reading madly and telling everyone what many have known and he's just discovered. 'We' stole the place.
