Mine is the one on the left.

No. 75 was designed for drilling small holes, up to about 1/4", and it will also drive small screws provided it is fitted with a tapered ended type brace bit with a screwdriver tip adapter. The model No. 75 was call a push brace, since it has a brace like chuck. Also, you can see it has an a concealed spiral shaft as it is fully extended. The spiral shaft and spiral mechanism is what makes the spiral system work, so when you push the handle in, the bit that is locked into the chuck turns in either the clockwise or counterclockwise motion depending on the setting of the slide switch on the side of the drill.

Peter and Jeff, if you are serious about giving yours up I'd be very interested in buying them off you. The one that dad had was a large flat head, which would have been handy driving the bronze screws into my floors this arvo, but I could see myself using a couple of different sizes if I had them.

Mine is quite small and certainly wouldn't drive much of a screw ,a small 8g would do it I'd say. it has a hollow plastic handle to keep bits in so quite a nice design .Greg i have a brace with a few cunning adaptions for big screws , roof screws and batten screws .A universal hex tool mount brazed onto an old brace bit .It works beautifully and gives heap of slow speed torque.

Greg with those 3" X 12 G bronze screws do you think it might be worth running in an identical steel screw to cut the thread first then backing it out to replace with the bronze one? Bronze is very easy to twist off if you really heave on it .

Battery drills ? I reckon my 12v Makita might be my most used tool . A mate recently repacked the batteries with NiMH cells replacing the old NiCads .It SO much better and saved me buying a shiny new LiIon job !

I use an old hand brace with a screwdriver bit for big stuff. I haven't used the Driver for so long I forgot I had it! Greg if it's working OK you can have it for the mailing costs.

    Thanks Jeff, that'd be wonderful!!

Peter, bloody good idea re pre screwing those things. I had a couple today that I was getting a bit worried about, I'd torque them up with a spanner on my screw driver shaft (square shaft) then leave them for ten minutes to cool down, back them off a few turns and then have at it again. Those that I've done so far went in OK eventually but I did worry that I'd snap one off.

I'm back and Looe is mostly in the shed now. There were a few little dramas that pushed the stress levels up a tad, but the deed is done, and we're all very happy! I feel a little bit like a stunned mullet right now, but hot food is going down a treat, as is my third beer! I'll start a new thread up in B&R and post a few of the same tales and shots here, but that won't happen until tomorrow. If I feel up to it I'll get one up here shortly, before I fall over.

A very, very big thank you to Rick and Tracy for being enormously generous and gracious last minute hosts when we knew we weren't going to make it all the way up to Sawtell to lob at my mate's place there.

Rick's report is very good, but I'll add more:

I think the ballast needs to come off anyway. A few floors are shot. The ply deck is mostly okay but you'd want to renew that anyway. Nearly all the planking looks really good. Certainly has great potential I reckon but I don't think you could just patch it up and put it back in. It does need substantial work but with that, I reckon it could be a really fantastic boat.

    Rick
The rudder we have but it was hanging from lower pintle and gudgeon when it was pulled and the tangs that come off the rudder post were both sheared. We have a box of winches, some self tailing and a couple of bronze ones (non-ST) where you can fit the handle on the top or bottom. The ones on the boat you fit the handles on the bottom. There were about five sails in bags in the forepeak when the boat was pulled, so when it's a sunnier up here I'll hang them out to dry and see what we have and what condition they're in. The boat is not hogged at all: The shear is just about perfect and very easy on the eye. There's a bit of rot around the topside planks at the transom and a few other little soft spots. We're going to sit down next weekend and start drawing up a restoration plan, including a needs list, listing out what's been spent by whom and hour many hours have been spent and continue this through the whole restoration process.

We'll use the roof beams, truck straps and blocks and chains to hoist Looe off the trailer on Saturday and make some stands from some of the slash pine I have, once the stacks have been rearranged and re-stacked off to one side. I've taken some shots of Rick's jack-stands-from acrows and we'll make up seven or eight of those to replace the slash pine stands. The ballast keel will be dropped using trolley jacks with a channel welded to take the shape of the foot. Details... Details...

    I'm munted, but happy!

    Fun, isn't it?

Peter... I snorkelled with Manta Rays off Komodo Island... a few kays off actually. They are amazing. One looped underneath us when we were following it... came up behind us then. Feeding behaviour I believe. There's a photo or two in my thread.

Thanks for the compliments guys! The Triton was great Rob, but we had a trouble going down. New truck under warranty so the Narrabeen Mitsubishi dealer looked at it straight away and a turbo hose was disconnected. Hooked back up and the beast was reborn. Not only that, the cruise control worked then as well! The cruise cut out a few times going up some of the steeper hills so a bit of manual throttle helped it along, but otherwise it didn't miss a beat. I was expecting a couple of wobbles to happen a few times, maybe lose traction on the rears with all that weight in the trailer. Never happened.

    I am relieved!

Duncan , funny that the dealer knew where to look !.
After my first service , I had that problem , has that ute just had its first 5,000 km service ?.
You would have less trouble with sway than a tub ute , because the tow ball is closer to the axle on a c/c than the tub utes.
But it did the job , thats the main thing.

The builder of the yacht was born in Looe (Cornwall). I've got a few shots of Looe from the 1970s as well, but here's a little bit of Looe the town:

Water everywhere here... at 2,000 metres... and not a Wooden Boat in sight. Ian hasn't even put his bum on his motorcycle. I might stay put today and do some WOODEN BOAT photos up for my travel thread. I'm thinking it needs a few more Wooden Boats in it before I move it into People and Places or Misc Boating Related.

Iwas just about to post a bit of a "ramble" on income hunting and a relationship to the advancement of my WOODEN BOAT restoration, but came on here and realised that there are far more important issues to address:

DUNCAN!!! Where's your thread on Looe and the trip up from Sydney? Shake a leg sunshine, you've been back for two days now!!

Well , I have just taken a WOODEN BOAT out !.
I'm really sore from arthritis , but its a beautiful day , so I thought stuff it , I'm going out.
As I came around the north shore I was surprised at the hight of the swell , it was well up , but it was very regular , on a low tide.
When I got down to the beach , I got talking to a couple of women in a mobile home there , and invited them out trolling.
One got sea sick and didn't come , the other took me up on it.
I still didn't try sailing , she had no experience , and I was just too sore.
And we didn't catch a bloody thing .
But we had some fun with the waves.
The town reef , and out from it was awesome , huge waves breaking well out before it.
We stayed well away from there , but still managed to do some surfing , on HS.
Coming in , we had to wait for a big woodchip ship , and the tugs and pilot boat to go out , and I though it best to stay clear of the big cat supplying the oil rig coming in , but it was good to be out on the water again.
The woman enjoyed it too , and was impressed with "my little WOODEN boat".
