Lots of beautiful vehicles emerged from Tickford street - saw lots 'cos I lived round the corner....

But, in the interests of fairness - How to make a volvo look svelte.

I was going to post a Bristol but the design and mechanicals were pinched from a 1937 BMW.

If we are going curvy, I'll put forward the MGA .A really pretty and understated bit of design .

I've always been fond of the MG A, too. A girlfriend, before I knew her, owned an A. She'd sold it to help pay college expenses, and always kinda lamented it. From her stories, the car had the typical British roadster quirks, but the coachwork on those cars is beautiful IMHO.

I should not argue these are indeed fine cars but a 1960 bugeye sprite will always have a place in me heart, When a young lad my father came home and grabbed me and said we are going to get a car, Seems in the Carpentry trade he found a client with a bugeye in a barn that said, take it if you wish, We hauled out out and my father started working on it and taught me many things, 3d gear was out so we took out the trans and he showed me the broken teeth and ordered a new gear, Well at 17 that car was a dream come true sept the dream was soured a bit by the British wiring system, If i remember it was a 6 volt system, The car continually broke down but i think it was the most funnest car i ever drove in, Now tis true it might not have been the prettiest thing around but she grew on ya.

It was like this one only rusted out with a duck taped top.

    I do like the Sunbeam.

Another favourite of mine from that vintage - the Shelsey Crossley; it even has electric light!

Too easy. I was at a Jaguar event once, where they had lined up every car they had produced starting with the SS100. I remarked that everyone seemed to look a tad worse that the previous--a sort of backhanded observation on how striking all their cars have been.

The windscreen is folded down in the photo. Real British cars have ropes, not door handles. Also, no roll-up windows.

    Aston DB6, O yum.

... and I will always have a fond place in my heart for my departed 1962 MGA Mark II.

PS: The body is by Zagato so it isn't pure English, but if you will allow me that, then my other is the Aston DB4 Zagato.

I'll bow to individual taste on your first choice Paul... nice, but not quite there.... but that second Aston of yours is pig ugly.

If you want beautiful, the XK13 is right up there - and ageless.

Maybe I should have said ageless styling... because IIRC it never went ahead because it was already outdated from a racing technology perspective when Jaguar were testing it in the mid 60's. Now, a replica of that, with a BMW V12 in it. Hmmmm.

I've got a mate back in Sydney who is building a twin turbo V12 that is going in an E34 shell btw. He's on his last legs and wants it to be his swansong. He's built some very nice machinery in the past - and the work he was doing on the manifolds just before I left town was brilliant.

Yes. English cars race in Irish green because Napier chose that colour for the 1903 Gordon Bennett Cup, which was held in Ireland:
