I have posted this before but I just can't stop admiring "Seabird" a Fife design that is over a hundred years old. I might just consider building her. She is, to my thinking, just plain lovely as well as a very smart sailer. Oh yes, it goes without saying that she is absolutely beautiful, captivating and stunning as well!

She is a heart stopper for sure!

it can be a struggle to design and build a boat,
many years ago i designed a boat for my brother,
he contacted a naval architect and asked for stability calculations and other info,
without looking at the design the N A trashed it,and said it was worthless
and that if he wanted a design, the n a would design him another boat,
how strange is that
my brother did not contact him again
this may be the last response you expect from an n a,
most n a,s are helpful, but you might get this response if you offer to pay an n a for his professional services,
i wonder if you can guess which n a it was,he is a contributor to this forum![]()

My idea for marketing is to build the boat and go sailing. What you say about stability calculations etc may be true, but these details will mean nothing in practice except confidence and overconfidence. Sailing a topsail gaff rig boat in my experience is a matter of feel and experience, not a matter of numbers off a sheet. You know how building practice was in the days out of which your plan comes and how those boats sailed, so you know how she will be. You can do displacement calculations and go on to centers of gravity, etc toward stability calculation, but if a person only trust the computer you might not want that person sailing your boat. Alternatively you must find a NA you can talk to, willing and interested in working with you. Tough market these days.

Many would argue with you about that - but not me! But life is too short!
